We’ve had enough. Stand down. Let someone else step up into your seat. You’re clearly overmatched and you’re making things worse.

Yeah, META-SPIEL is mine. I've also written about Stickney - sort of - one other time. The Stickney - Forest View Lions Club held a 5K, but inexplicably, it took place in Cicero, not Stickney, because of some weird permissions problem. I'm not surprised that they would gatekeep comminity parties!

Babies are just cars and generation names are just like annual changes to VIN numbers. We're all just products here.

Your writing about remote work was and remains very instructive to me. Our corporate parent has no goddamn clue. They can't understand remote work because they don't understand the *work* in the first place. This to me is at the root of the rot economy, a total disrespect for what the work truly is.

The number one issue on my mind right this minute is how Chuck Schumer needs to leave the Senate so that he can be replaced by someone who will actually help the country

@me3dia.bsky.social if only Gapers Block were still around for this one!

This is a really great idea. How might this work in practice?

Schumer has always fronted for Wall Street. He’s never been what rank and file Democrats anywhere else have wanted. He is right now the poster child for the out of touch Senator who is doing nothing about the situation. He needs to retire and people need to speak up and say so.

We had to destroy the global village in order to save it.

That middle lane could be very narrow or very wide. My question is, how do we get a fair assessment of "what AI is doing" or "what LLMs are doing" from someone in the middle lane? Who has the knowledge, credibility, and reach? I'd like to say "journalists" but which major outlets aren't compromised?

This is a really excellent point. When you say the energy should be considered... what DeepSeek has just done is shown how thoroughly American tech has NOT properly considered energy except in terms of how to control it. It raises serious questions about the underpinnings of their design!
comment in response to

The problem is this: the singularity might well be around the corner, but the massive energy-wasting grift is entirely in the way. Grifters can sometimes stumble upon some amazing things - indeed sometimes that helps the grift - but why would we trust them to steer this?

I wouldn't go even if they paid me $99
Maybe if they paid me $150

His age isn't at issue to me, or at least not directly. His 30 years in the Senate, THAT is at issue. I don't see him providing the right kind of leadership on tech issues. I don't see him pushing for things. I see a fairly complacent person, and now is not the time for complacency.

Taxpayers are ALREADY subsidizing this in all sorts of ways. And now they're going to throw more money at these creeps.
I wrote about it in more detail, but I'm not you. Judd, do what you do best, follow some of that data center money!

@matthewstoller.bsky.social I quote you twice in here, and want to add a thank you for the clarity and directness with which you covered this. It truly is remarkable how differently so many things can be understood from the framework of monopoly.

You had a game called Gumdrop or something similar which I’ve not seen since and which I’ve long wanted to find. Gumdrop did not involve carnivores though, I don’t believe.

The Riverside library is a particularly wonderful place. The thing about the Western Springs tower though is that I see it and think, oh wow they made *this* instead of something else. It’s got a special incongruity that things can’t quite have in Riverside because of its special history.

It *is* time to look to the future.
Accordingly, we expect your resignation immediately. We don’t have a moment to lose. We need competent leadership in the form of people who actually give a shit about average Americans instead of Wall Street.
You’re who got us here. You need to leave the scene.
