The second paper from my PhD was published this week! Co-authors and I used results from a group of climate models to test which regions most reliably return to their original climate if CO2 concentrations go way up and then back down again. 1/3

As a climate scientist in training, I know there will always be more that physics can teach us about the planet. But, we already know *enough* to be sure that climate change is a huge problem. Solving it is no longer a scientific or even an engineering problem. We need the humanities for that. 1/3

Personal opinion incoming. This is what went through my head when the govt announced cutting back on the Dunedin hospital build: #nzpol #Dunedin

Yes fossil fuels powered the incredible rise in living standards over recent centuries, but now their use needs to end. Because the companies selling them resist, their use need to be actively *ended*. We have the tech. A stirring articulation of this challenge: www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The NZ govt has given just 4 days for the public to submit on the bill that will reverse the oil & gas exploration ban. I'm not confident that submissions will change their mind, but they help show that the public opposes this change (if you, like me, oppose it). www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/mak...

Bluesky Elder certified. Now I get to yell at clouds.

This study from The Economist finds that for every 1 life the heaviest 1% of passenger vehicles save, they take 12 lives in other cars. NZ needs to avoid the US' vehicle arms race. Tax vehicles by weight and require heavy vehicle licences for big double-cab utes. www.economist.com/interactive/...

Kiwis! We have less than 2 weeks to submit feedback on the proposed second emissions reduction plan. Please have your say! My submission focussed on the downsides of over-relying on pine forests and ensuring *all* costs are taken into account. consult.environment.govt.nz/climate/seco...
