I don't know your story, Rose, but maybe they are trying to be encouraging in their own weird way? Take your own path. None of us started in the same spot.

Not a question for Jen, but a question for #FreelanceFriends folks: I'm hosting next week, looking at community building, and would love to hear what questions folks have as I work on organizing next week's materials.

So true! When you're in the trenches, it's easier to spot the phonies, but also easier to find great colleagues. #freelancefriends

Totally agree. If they aren't equipped to hire based on your existing work, they have no business hiring. #freelancefriends

This exactly, Matt. Too many hang out their shingles, then fake it as they're collecting your money. #freelancefriends

Q3: Look for courses that teach you the business end of writing. You've got the talent, presumably. Signs that the resource is a scam -- constant upsell. Repetitive content. And EVERYTHING has a price tag. Talk with other freelancers. We know who's scamming! #freelancefriends

Better to check out their website and look at their editorial guidelines. If nothing else, find an editor's email and ask directly.

Market every day. I mean, Every. Day. Email marketing (just a letter of introduction works), engaging potential clients in conversation on social media, sharing, querying magazines, anything you can think of that gets your name out there and gets you in front of your target clients.

I've had a Miele for 11 years. Quietest, most reliable one I've ever owned.

I like them both. Threads has a different vibe for me too, but I think using Threads makes it easier to segment my political conversations over there and keep them relatively untouched here.
