There are huge storms in #Iceland tonight - just seen gusts recorded of 58.3m/s (130mph) in the north and south-east 😬Hopefully everyone is safely inside... And here are some waves breaking on a windy day back in March 2022 - slowed down to 1/5th second.

Same beach as the last photo I posted (Fellsfjara, JĂśkulsĂĄrlĂłn, #Iceland) - this one taken in Oct 2024, and 1/2500 seconds - amazing colour in the waves. Taken on another windy day...

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for this photo - I love the way the water looks. People sometimes say my photos look like paintings, but this one really does to me - & was why I decided to do an oil painting course 2 summers ago. Haven't tried painting this one (yet!). Feb 2020 #Iceland

Fond memory of this golden iceberg on the Fellsfjara beach at JĂśkulsĂĄrlĂłn, taken on this day in 2018 - the only time I've ever been on there my birthday (it's my birthday today!). #Iceland

Another waterfall - this is Kolufossar in the north-west of #Iceland, taken in Sept 2014 when I used to do more very long exposures (this is 30 seconds).

One of my favourite pictures of GoĂ°afoss, taken from the north bank, at the river's edge below it, with the afternoon sun illuminating the spray from the falls. Decided to convert to B&W and I like it :) #Iceland Sept 2014

Staying on the B&W waterfall theme, here's another one from my Sept 2014 trip to #Iceland. This is Dettifoss, the most impressive waterfall in the country, I think. It looks particularly impressive from the east side, although the road there is more difficult (unpaved).

Lots of these guys around in #RichmondPark - always! They make a right racket, but I do enjoy the green flashes as they fly around squawking.

Hopefully the video quality on this will be okay… a little view at sunrise this morning at #RichmondPark taken on the iPhone 15 pro.

There was a light frost this morning - just love #RichmondPark in these conditions.

Frosty grasses. Frost is so amazing :) #RichmondPark

SOL!?? NU SKER DET. Hvor mange fuglearter fra matriklen i dag? 😄 Følg med. #jegkiggerpåfugle #microbirding #birds

Today's walk up Rannerdale Knotts

A few pics from our Winter Wildlife & Up Helly Aa trip last week. Highlights included Bufflehead, Ross’s Goose, American Coot, American Wigeon, Hen Harrier, Iceland & Glaucous Gulls, Otters & several Mountain Hares. Pics 🔽 by bsky.app/profile/hugh... #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK #Birds

Just spent the evening updating legal forms & emailing my solicitor for my second attempt at my flat sale. So painful to have to do once, let alone twice! To take my mind off it before bed, here are some nice rocks in a very calm lagoon in #Iceland from Sept 2018.

The weekend starts here! Just reached 10,000 followers, so thank you to each and every one of you for your support (except the bots!) 😊🙏 And here are some crazy clouds from a few summers ago up in the Westfjords of #Iceland - gotta love a lenticular :)

Time for more calming waves. 0.6 second exposure from a beach in south-east #Iceland in April 2023.

Taken on this day last year - one of the many stormy days at Hellnar, looking at Kvíahnúkur (a small mountain below SnÌfellsjÜkull). Back there next month! #Iceland

Back to #Iceland calm photos... This is the view from the beach at VĂk with a 1.6 second exposure, at dusk in Feb 2018.

Looking at some old photos from visits to #Iceland in February - this one was in 2015 - my 8th trip to the country. It's JĂśkulsĂĄrlĂłn glacial lagoon.

I love the chaos of breaking waves, but how calming they can also be. Another old one - taken at Fellsjfara beach at JĂśkulsĂĄrlĂłn in #Iceland in Feb 2018, with a 1 second exposure, in the middle of the day with the sun behind.

Back to the waves... these are taken off the coast at Fellsfjara, JĂśkulsĂĄrlĂłn #Iceland in late Feb 2022. A rather stormy day!

Good morning, sunshine. Photo credit, my sister.

A drake Eider riding the swells in Bressay Sound. Known here in #Shetland as a 'Dunter', the name has derived from the Old Norse word 'Dunt' - to bob up and down. Sums them up beautifully when they are swimming on the sea. #BirdingScotland #ukbirding #birds #MarineLife #seabird

In July 2023 I flew over to #Iceland to see the Litli-HrĂştur volcanic eruption. While I was there I took the opportunity to visit the old crater from the 6-month-long Fagradalsfjall 2021 eruption nearby - I got the drone up to see the amazing colours of the lava it left.

And like that, my return trip is booked! I knew I couldn't stay away from the snowy houses for too long. Back in Feb - yay! Photo from #Iceland Jan 2024 trip.

Not much things are as thrilling as glacier hiking for me. It’s like walking on top of an ancient ice elemental creature holding the memory of our planet… The imagination goes wild during those moments 😵‍💫🧊 #bluesky #photography #landscape #glacier #nature #art #landscapephotography #mountains

Crummock Water #lakedistrict

Subzero temperatures here in #Shetland again today. Very few open ditches of water in the south Mainland but those that were, held numbers of Common Snipe and a handful of their pint-sized cousins: Jack Snipe. Here's a Jack Snipe from this morning at Loch of Spiggie. #BirdingScotland #ukbirding

Time for one of my favourite photos from 2024 (have posted a v similar one before). It was taken in late January, where I spent 9 days in one of these little cabins. The first few days the roads/weather allowed me to explore, but then for days & days I was stuck. It was quite an experience! #Iceland

2024 has been an amazing year for wildlife here in #Shetland and I agree with @shetlandwildlife.bsky.social that this Beluga off Hillswick in a very snowy January was the highlight. Happy Hogmanay and wishing everyone a wildlife-filled 2025. #MarineLife #MarineMammals #CetaceansUK

The light… We seek for it, we make plans, we wait and we hope… But only in rare occasions we get to face truly unique light. When it happens we get fulfilled… #Happynewyear #bluesky friends 💛 Alpine Breath, captured in Chamonix #photography #landscape #mountains #light #art #nature

My favourite sea view of 2024 - Traigh Seilebost, Isle of Harris

Boom! Just a big wave crashing over a big stack in #Iceland in January 2024 (before I got snowed in). This is Kerling, at DjĂşpalĂłnssandur on the SnĂŚfellsnes Peninsula.

Lava fountain at #Etna's Voragine crater on the evening of 15 July 2024, seen from a distance of 2.5 km. This was the third in a series of six paroxysms between 4 July and 15 August 2024. The sound is the genuine, original sound of a lava fountain when heard at that distance.

In the run up to 2025 we'll be featuring our Top 10 highlights of wildlife seen on our 2024 tours. To kick the series off, here's No.10 - this magnificent migrant Long-eared Owl which spent a couple of days very conveniently in our #Shetland garden in May. #BirdingScotland #ukbirding #birds

Giant glacier hidden deep in the wilderness of Alaska… Almost look like a race track 🏎️😆… And yes, it does exist 😉. This one is a huge aerial panorama covering an angle around 220 degrees. #bluesky #photography #landscape #mountains #nature #art #landscapephotography
