Many of the Trump administration's actions will kill millions of people worldwide in the coming years, including those related to weather, the environment, and climate. That's not hyperbole.

Umberto Eco once wrote that Europeans are vaccinated by centuries of conflict on their continent. One of the most important things in today’s Europe is to call out those who doubt the efficacy of this vaccine. We have anti-democratic forces in our midst, now is the time to stand up against them.

LAND OF THE BULLY - after the appalling way in which Volodymyr Zelensky was treated today at the White House by Trump and Vance, we can safely say that the USA is no longer the land of the free. Directed and animated by André Carrilho; sound by Philippe Lenzini; produced by JP Cotrim for RTP

Another piece, this time in @gizmodo.com by @adamjkovac.bsky.social on rescinding the protections for the #GulfofMexico whale. Comment: Balaenoptera ricei is also the Gulf of Mexico whale. What did Dale Rice do to deserve the opprobrium of his name being tied to a whale that'll go extinct? 🐳🌍🦑

Young Europeans face rising threat from misinformation as social media becomes main news source www.euronews.com/my-europe/20... "...social media is now the number one news source for young people." TikTok "a blatant source of misinformation. 27% find "it difficult to identify deceitful content."

NOAA is in the Trump administration's crosshairs. You know the important work they do, but may now know that It's the descendant of the Coast Survey, the nation's first scientific agency, founded in 1807 under Jefferson. I spoke with maritime historians to put NOAA's legacy in context. 🧪🦑🌎🐟

The Department of Government Efficiency isn't interested in efficiency. Or transparency, or cutting costs. It's real goal is to destroy the federal civil service. In other words, regime change. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

There will be nothing left of biomedical research in the US when Trump is done. Just think about that and anytime you or someone you love has been sick or dying. www.science.org/content/arti...

More than 1,700 scientists have signed an open letter accusing Musk of contravening the Royal society’s code of conduct by promoting conspiracies and attacking scientists such as Anthony Fauci on his social-media site, and by taking a leading role in “an assault on scientific research in the US”

I don’t know why stories like these aren’t front page headline by themselves. I’m doubtful the modal American understands Trump’s anti-DEI crusade is just naked bigotry. Behavior like this spells it out so plainly.

'science should, as a community, organise itself to maximise its ability to act collectively, ethically and – when necessary – politically.’ The scientific community needs to speak up – not just for the sake of science, but of human decency, dignity & morality www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/scie...

What do Europeans think of science and technology? - 83% believe science and tech have a positive impact, - 67% say science makes life easier, healthier and more comfortable, - 58% want to learn more about scientific advances. Find out more in the new Eurobarometer. ec.europa.eu/commission/p...

DOGE is reportedly threatening NOAA with massive staff and budget cuts. NOAA houses the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center, which produce forecasts and warn people about storms. This attack on public safety is ripped straight from the pages of Project 2025.

🚨Academic scientist friends who are members-ideally leaders- of scientific professional societies, I need your help. 🚨 There is a sign-letter being prepared that will speak out against recent politicization of scientific funding and demonization of scientific researchers. 🧪🌎🦑
