It is honestly wild to me that Republicans cooked up a bill that would prohibit D.C. from spending more than $1 billion of its own budget, devastating our city services out of pure spite, *and Senate Democrats might actually vote for it.* Utterly appalling. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

Our Lisa Desjardins' cat, Rocky, who appeared behind her when she reported from home, passed away Tuesday. The short-haired tuxedo cat amassed quite a following, with viewers often writing in to ask about him. He will be missed.

Sad to hear tonight that Lisa Desjardins's tuxedo cat Rocky passed away - seeing him on PBS Newshour (and all the reporters' pets) was a much needed high point during the Covid lockdown day. Oreo bids Rocky hail and farewell!

If you want to take a stand about art at the Kennedy Center, buy tickets for this significant and socially relevant work. Staying away hurts the artists more than the administration, and if new work like this sells poorly, it gives them an excuse to say it's unpopular, and stop programming it.

Very moved by the tributes to the late Larry Appelbaum on WPFW today - he joined the ancestors on Friday, and his weekend show on their radio show was always a highlight. Kudos to him for discovering this recording, too - jazztimes.com/features/pro...

A reminder - the Kennedy Center should not be hosting performances by Shen Yun, which is a cult www.nytimes.com/2024/08/19/n...

A spokesperson for the Kennedy Center says the threat targeted Shen Yun, a touring dance troupe that is banned in China, because it is associated with the religious group Falun Gong.
