I'm not sure we can still say he overpaid. For $44 billion he bought a country and control of its president, which he is using to strip other countries of their resources, sell his shoddy merchandise, and control wars. He's gotten a pretty good return on his investment.

France sent a nuclear sub which is currently sitting outside Halifax (the Canadian one). My impression has been that allied countries are pulling together to coordinate responses to trump and to increase trade amongst themselves

They are speaking up. There have been two huge meetings in Europe already, with Canada and the UK present. They all agreed to back Ukraine and Canada.
