Running thread of people trying to normalize the sieg heil. It's not an "Elon gesture", it's not autism, it's not your heart going out, it's not parody or trolling. It's fucking despicable. Don't ever let this shit become normal. Fuck any excuse given, there is none. Zero tolerance. 1. Elon Musk

A national tragedy.

No. New. PhD. Students. Direct hit on American innovation. On American competitiveness. On America.

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

SCOOP: New Social Security chief was being investigated for leaking data to DOGE when Musk team tapped him. Sr officials placed him on paid leave while probing whether he may have violated privacy & tax laws, WaPo's Lisa Rein reports. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

They are being fired for insisting that the military have discipline and rules. Discipline and rules are what make the military a military and not a band of thugs. Hegseth does not understand this because he is unqualified for his job.

Three things that make the U.S. the envy of the world: 1) Professionalized military with strong norm of civilian control 2) Higher education and cutting-edge scientific research 3) Ability to welcome immigrants and attract the “best and the brightest” All three are under threat.

No private citizen should have the power that Musk has

I think Musk might be following the Icarus arc

Starlink should be banned from European markets on national security grounds. Anything requiring Starlink should be shut out of the European market, and sanctions should be considered against all relevant actors. kyivindependent.com/us-threatens...

There have never been kings in America. The monarchy doesn't start now.

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

today in breaking laws no matter how obscure, ladies and gentlemen, the Goldwater-Nichols Act

This is quite significant in many ways: the overt thuggery, Trump’s barely suppressed fury at being contradicted by a woman, the governor’s standing up, the total abandonment of the pretense of federalism, the continuing use of trans Americans the way Hitler used Jews.

Super-important thread with developments on (one of) the NIH indirects case(s). #academicsky #highered #NIH

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.

okay, it’s time for me to finally weigh in: it’s probably a bad sign that guys are just doing sieg heils in public again

The stuff they're doing is deeply unpopular and they're rapidly heading in that direction. Stop treating them like they're untouchable. We can fight back.

Unfortunately for American democracy, there are already law review articles arguing that third-term presidencies are constitutionally acceptable

One thing I hope we will permanently discontinue in academia and left of center circles is language policing.

I feel like every lefty person should print this on a t-shirt and never take that t-shirt off. Social media reinforces some of the worst impulses for activists. A post that gets a lot of likes from like-minded people may be exactly the opposite of what you should be doing.

A blatant assault on academic freedom

If you’re looking for something concrete you can do, give money to Susan Crawford in Wisconsin who is about to get hit with a ton of Musk Bucks. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/20/u...

New: DOGE's spending has been secret. No longer. My colleagues have uncovered it. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

What a horrible human being Musk. Vile.

So if you criticize Elon Musk, Trump’s DOJ will send you this letter. Members of Congress must have the right to forcefully oppose the Trump Administration. I will not be silenced.

This is how I feel about the current administration. They are so cruel and immoral that I don’t have the patience to evaluate the effects of their actions individually to see if some might possibly be positive, nor do I respect others who do. It’s not appropriate to the depravity.

"It is not that I take exception to the general points made by you but that every ounce of my energy has been devoted to an active opposition to…the philosophy and practice of fascism." Bertrand Russell to Oswald Mosley, 22 January 1962 lettersofnote.com/2016/02/02/e...

Dems should, at least as part of their message, focus on Musk’s role. He is already unpopular and I think it is plausible that he will come to be viewed as an arrogant and entitled clown by much of the public.

Community notes for thee but not for me Looks like insofar a community notes were reliable in the past, that may not be the case for much longer

As angry as I am at the Republicans who enabled Trump, I am trying to resist the temptation to attack them when they criticize Trump. We need them to do that.

It’s pathetic, and Watters is an enabler, the lowest of the low But it’s a bit encouraging that even a loyalist like that is seeing the destructive effects of this administration

Where are all the self-proclaimed defenders of the rule of law and free enterprise? Open shakedowns of businesses happening right in front of us and it's just 🦗🦗🦗

Oh my God if this is true

"NASA has upgraded the risk of asteroid 2024 YR4 hitting Earth in 2032 to 3.1 per cent, or about a 1-in-32 chance, the highest odds yet of collision." 🧪

lmfao do you know how unpopular you have to be to poll 4 points behind international aid and 12 points behind the IRS here

I have truly lost all respect for this deeply hypocritical human being.

One of the leading scholars of democracy is struggling to process what is happening just like everyone else: "Is democracy dying in the United States?"

Again, this idea that all Trump opposition is just "Trump derangement syndrome" 1) inspires a lot of bait, designed to make liberals angry and generate more bait, and 2) is so hubristic that you can smell the backfire.

My hope is that Trump’s hubris will be his undoing Applies to Musk as well

The political juggernaut that members of Congress from both parties are cowering in fear of

Blumenthal: "What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable. A disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom ... the president's surrender is pathetic and weak."
