Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Boat derangement syndrome

men will literally impose tariffs on islands entirely inhabited by penguins instead of going to therapy

More wise words from President Obama. "It's up to all of us to fix this. It's not going to be somebody who comes and saves us. The most important office in this democracy is the citizen. The ordinary person who says, no, that's not right." We should be out every weekend, protesting, peacefully

Obama: No one is coming to save us. It’s time for citizens to stand up. Every weekend until this ends.

Republicans in Congress can repeal every tariff tomorrow and take Trump’s tariff authority away from him. But they choose not to. So every Republican in Congress owns EVERY SINGLE BIT of this. You can’t hide from the voters forever.

I kind of want to go

Stop watching the news, become the news.

I walked away from his speech last night with, that’s right, HOPE! Obama: know your values, defend them. No one’s coming to save us but ourselves. Know your neighbors. Organize.

It’s so important to know what your values are right now. Have more than a good guess about what they might be. Have a plan to defend them.

Thanks to @commondreams.org for covering the Rutgers University Senate's resolution for a Mutual Academic Defense Compact. It's touched a strong chord among academics and others because it charts a truly imaginable (if difficult!) way to stand up TOGETHER. www.commondreams.org/news/rutgers...

Why is Trump going after US science? What's the endgame for these attacks? Vance, Rufo, Trump and Republican elites are attacking NIH and manipulating its grants in order to attack American universities. "It's bad, folks." New contributed post at our blog. Please share it w/ your 🧪 colleagues.

Fine. If it's about jobs and the economy... 69% of the US GDP is from STEM and 24% of the US workforce works in STEM. #standupforscience #scienceforall #handsoffourscience ncses.nsf.gov/pubs/nsb2024.... www.fticonsulting.com/~/media/File...

Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century." snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-les...

SCOOP: The Trump admin appears to be going into a visa database to quietly change students' immigration status. It's coming entirely by surprise — setting students up to be detained without warning. It's Mahmoud Khalil & Rumeysa Ozturk — on a wider scale.

Lotta people talking a big game about where the Democratic party should go from here but here’s the thing: The way you change the party is by changing the people who run for office from the ground up — @runforsomething.net has the biggest candidate pipeline on our side & it’s growing every day.

“Facts don’t care about your feelings” as some right-wing bloward once said, ironically.

"...let me just say it's important for people to know when it's time to go. We're going to have conversations, I'm sure, in the foreseeable future, about all the Democratic leadership,” Sen. Michael Bennett
