Why do you all insist on arguing? Denying the lived reality of non-Anglos? It isn't a function of individuals, but of an inherently racist Crown colony. Canada owes me 8 years of my life back.
I don’t really want to argue. I mean that my instinct is to defend my country but notice that I do agree with you.
A lot of racists live here. I love Canada, but I won’t deny that non-White Canadians haven’t lived the same experiences as I have.
I’m sorry that you’ve experienced pain here ♥️
Who wants to watch the South Park movie with me and cry for the good ol days as they sing, "Blame Canada! Blame Canada!" That was fun. Can we blame them for this too?
I mean tbf the Plaintiffs' case regarding due process is pretty shaky, as legally declared AEA is subject to Executive's jurisdiction only (see Ludecke v Watkins), however AEA is intended - and always was used - during war only and the President's claimed here is pretty shaky (see 50 USC 21)
Him going directly against the law (and by that directly violating the federal constitution) and most importantly, refusing a court order are much bigger concerns. Separation of power is a fundamental concept of liberal democracy, and him messing with that is worrying.
In the afformentioned case, the Supreme Court found that the Due Process clause doesn't apply here (Ludecke V Watkins, decided 1948). However, that doesn't change anything on the fact that AEA was meant for war time only and cannot be legally invoked during peace time.

We spend much of the ski season in Whistler BC, it's our home away from home. Everyone is so nice there and Whistler village is a winter fantasy land. Lots of people from Australia between January & March, probably because it's summer vacation for them. Visit Whistler if you get a chance.
Come up, Molly! Spring is in the air already here in southern Ontario, good currency exchange, and Canada has it all. Great, short travel video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFFZMcU6V5s
It's been years so I'd love to revisit the Thousand Islands, Montreal, Quebec City, and the Maritimes, esp Nova Scotia.🐬
So, after due process and a determination of guilt, as an American who voted for the current president. Canada will be sending you back to America. Which is better than being sent to El Salvador. At least for now. IMO that’s how I see it.
I'm a US citizen living in Japan. Bullies and dictators don't stop. I do wonder if, knowing the expats tend to be Dems, whether we'll be harassed, disenfranchised, etc. A Brit expat friend mentioned that the UK disenfranchises expats after a certain number of years.
Disenfranchisement after 15 years of living abroad is fair.
Why should you get to decide how a country you don't live in is run at the same level as those who actually reside there?
Understood.
We have been to Canada dozens of times and have always felt welcome. Our northern neighbors are some of the nicest folks we have met in all of our travels.
Beautiful country from the European charm of Quebec to the canals of Ottawa to the upscale vibe of Toronto. And by the way their game of hockey is beloved world wide.
Just be aware that there is a segment of the Alberta population that agree with Trump. They're 'drill baby drill' and 'mine baby mine' types. There's a religious toxic-male Alberta segment that wants to ditch Canada and be RW Texas North.
They ARE in the minority but they have oil money & influence
The Maple MAGAs are real. Alberta has the stereotype but they can be found in all provinces. If I had to guess based on my interactions I’d say Ontario has a solid second place.. but only because of percentage per capita. There’s a lot of Maple MAGAs in Ontario.
There is some valid frustration they have though. The voting power is completely unbalanced and to be fair there have been legitimate cases where politicians straight up neglected them. Truduh Sr literally flipped off the west when he got off a train in BC. But “Berta” definitely is obstinate.
Maybe why we really need ER & why I was so pissed at JT when he dropped it. Maybe we need 1 person 1 vote? Regional voting rather than provbyprov? Dunno.
But AB is still only 5 million/in a pop of 40 million.
My DNA is ABn. Moved to SK in '60s when SK was more 'balanced' and less 'rabid' than AB.
I definitely don’t know what the best action is for fair votes but it is a valid frustration. I think Alberta is 4th biggest population and growing rapidly. But it’s more than just Alberta that that gets a dirty deal for voting power. Manitoba and west are shorted.🤷♂️
Can confirm. My very small town in BC has at least one, but probably more.
Someone kept putting up Trump 2024 stickers on the gas station pumps during the election, and one idiot has a cyber truck. Might be the same guy, might not.
I have a friend from work (he’s retired now) who has one of the cars. He’s had it for about 3 years now. He definitely despises Elon but says he’s not going to get rid of a good car. I can understand and respect that aspect so don’t be too quick to assume.
Still sucks you have a MAGA infestation.
There are two camps for Tesla. Those that were all for Elon pre saluting and those all for Elon post saluting. I was very pro Tesla until Elon flipped to MAGA. I started losing confidence in him just after he acquired Twitter.
HAR!
That amuses me no end.
There's so much geologically, paleontologically, historically, agriculturally about this land.
But the oft foreign political overseers are greedy&needy.
Why. Don't. More. ABns. See. Them. For. What. They. Are.
And go w fascinating stable things we have?
#FastBuckGreed
I feel I must remind ppl that BC is furthest prov West.
They are not as cantankerous or as politically 'simple' as the ruling party in AB. And often BC doesn't even want to be included when 'The West' comes up as a phrase.
BC&ON have had their run w superiority complexes - AB still coming of age.
This is 100% inaccurate. The most populated part of western Canada is NOT conservative. The idea that the west would separate is the stupidest statement made in Canadian political history. The biggest and most important market of western Canada would join Washington or alone before joint Alberta.
She's in deep trouble w corrupt health care so "Look there's squirrels" - now another panel to wander around AB raising separatist support using publicly funded soap box.
Her: 'Someone call a referendum'
Her: Hide the fine print in an election w a REAL issue 'AB patriots' define
Any area one election fr throwing away what others have built.
My take: once ppl build up a bit of a nest egg, they get uppity.
Suddenly they think they're superior to others who haven't had their gd luck.
Suddenly ready to sacrifice others/programs to build their nest 'bigger' by lower MY taxes.
Albertan here. We are not all trumpettes and in fact they are a very small minority with very big mouths. Lots of very beautiful spots to visit in Alberta and lots of nice people too.
Albertan here.
Ppl unfamiliar with the province's population may be surprised if the 'friendly' progressive Albertan they think they've just encountered, acts like a Trumpette.
Best to be wary & check before assuming what you think you've come across in the wilds.
Edmonton would probably try to separate from Alberta if Alberta became a sovereign state. And if it ever happened hundreds of thousands of prairie folks would die because nobody would give them a lifeline or let them build a pipeline through foreign Territory
Edmonton folks are great people, and Calgary would collapse without Edmonton and coastal BC. I kind of want that crazy ass premier over there to actually separate. It would be fun to watch them become a third world nation within weeks.
ONLY if you get someone to buy our house at what we paid - no profit.
And you move us to the new one.
Every time the electorate thinks they're smarter/richer and don't need to work together to benefit consumers.
It’s poutine if it’s a mess of flavourless cheese curds mixed in with gravy and fries. The og was made with canned chicken gravy and sold at hwy burger shacks in Quebec. Nowadays the poutine game has been much elevated.
I’ve actually wondered about this. Do y’all even want us there right now? I would understand if not. 😢 I hate this and I’m so sorry. I’ve always felt so proud to be your neighbor. 🇨🇦
We do NOT trust the USA which stabbed us in the back & is threatening to invade.
We welcome sane Americans as individuals though, because we recognise the difference.
By supporting us up here you're giving less $ to your messed up regime, like our boycotts.
All positive vibes are welcome. We individual Americans need it. This country is lost to fascism and racism. The American “Empire” is over. And it was never noble in the first place. They don’t teach us real history in school, by the way. It’s all propaganda. We don’t know any better unless we read.
Of course! We know what’s happening isn’t your fault. American visitors are always welcome. 🤗 Leave the 51st state jokes behind, be respectful of our diversity, bring Canadian cash, & leave things better than you found them. We’re easy to get along with and we’d love to see you! 🇨🇦♥️
Thank you, and again, I’m just so sorry. Lots of options to choose from on what to be most upset about, but what’s happening with Canada is one of the absolute worst. 💔
From a practical standpoint, we do welcome more tourism dollars...it'll only help our country. And the current US regime being bastards won't change us Canadians being welcoming and accepting, again as long as visitors leave all the trash at home 😊
We may poke fun at you a little bit more tho... 😉
We plan to emigrate from the U.S. as soon as possible. My Texan accent is going to give me away immediately wherever we go. We’ll be solely dependent on the kindness of world citizens to shepherd us. 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Trump left Washington last night and these four soldiers were not received by the president, I don’t know what the fuck it’s going to take, but a few people don’t fucking end this pretty soon people are going to die literally get assassinated
During the war in Afghanistan, many Canadians would gather on freeway overpasses along the Kings Highway 401 “Highway of Heroes” to salute the military hearses carrying fallen Canadian soldiers home to be buried.
Not just the 401. A soldier from my home town in southern Ontario was killed, and people lined the highways and streets all the way to the funeral home. It was incredibly touching. I didn't know the young man, but I wept for him and his loved ones.
Go by all means! Great country. Have been to Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. Great memories of them all.
I think we should welcome the doctors and professors with open arms. Canada, the next true leader of the free world. Carney vs Trump...talk about taking someone to the woodshed that won't even understand he's being schooled
I am also an old. I can’t even contemplate moving at my age let alone emigrating. My texan mother in law moved in with us in the day. It was difficult for all of us. It is amazing how culturally different we are.
Actually, not so. Canada is looking for researchers and the Feds or Provinces (I am unaware of any that might have) haven't put "old" on lists of 'do not apply'...
I can only speak for my family's experience. Mom and brother diagnosed with cancer and immediately fast tracked for surgery, radiation, chemo. I never once felt like it was too long to wait for treatment. Yes there are usually long wait times in emergency because they triage according to need.
Slight exaggeration. I know there are lines for specialized treatment. A woman I loved never recovered from a treatable cancer. Just know the healthcare is shit. That's all
I've always gotten prompt testing and treatment, including MRI's, CT scans, angiograms, cardiovascular surgery, colonoscopies, orthopedic surgery, and eye surgery. All free. Of course there's always room for improvement, but I've had great care.
2/ They saved my life. Post surgery diagnosis, gallbladder killed your liver. You have 2-3 years to live.
So yes our system is not functioning great, but it is fixable!
1/ I have to disagree. But first let me say our system is fixable.
Not sure who dropped the ball Emergency or Family doctor. My gallbladder was supposed to come out 7 yrs ago.
19 months ago things got bad, waited for specialist appt. In Dec emergency surgery, gallbladder gangrene.
Funny I don’t remember seeing anything about him in the history books in school! But then again we’re not so slowly being erased from existence in the US under the Russian asset! Soon we’ll be just like Russia!
Visited cottage country in Ontario for 15 summers. Was the best week of the year. Alas Covid years got us scrambled to the bottom of the waitlist and we hadn't been back since 2019.
Will Canada let me apply for sanctuary when I can’t get home because my passport doesn’t match my birth certificate? I mean the US says I can’t vote easily anymore because my name changed when I got married, why should I expect to be allowed to travel internationally?
I’m Canadian. My passport doesnt match by birth certificate. I have travelled to dozens of countries, & 100s of trips between Canada and US (pre-Trump, boycotting US now) & I have never had an issue. TBH I have no idea where my BC is. With a passport, Drivers License, & Health card I don’t need it!
We have been to Winnipeg and Vancouver. V has the drive to Whistler, the Sea to Sky drive, some folks include it in top 10 scenic in world. It was very nice! Plenty of other things to see, but pricey. W has a different vibe, more history and such, flatter! Nowhere near as pricey.
I feel bad for my friend. He doesn't talk to me much anymore because he has to travel the border for work and I've sent him images like Elon and Trump kissing
I know. I saw a Maine plate in the Dollarama parking lot on Thursday when the tariffs were announced. I thought, boy, are you taking your chances! It’s sad.😔
Not yet, but soon that will change.
When more auto factories shut down like the one in Windsor, 54,000+ workers unemployed as of today, with feeder plants to follow. Soon a sign won't deter vandals, the same as signs don't stop cybertruck vandals.
That won't help. American attitude and accent gives them away every single time, esp. the former.
Now it will be worse. In one city alone 54,000 Stellantis workers have been laid off and the feeder plants will be next.People will lose their homes.
I'm telling you more and more Canadians are furious.
I was just there. People are polite and kind. I hope they know many of us know that the danger yam is a catastrophic mess and that Faux News/State Media is at least in part to blame.
I too want to go, but will we be able to get back into the US? I fear that even as US Citizens the US govt will illegally incarcerate us and illegally confiscate our US passports. I don’t trust the US govt under Trump to follow the law. They have been breaking the law since Trump came into office
Well they weren’t all “hippies”, some were young men who looked like they just stepped out of a Baptist church; they just objected to being shipped halfway around the world to fight in a senseless war.
Over 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam: now Nike, Under Armour and GAP have products made there.
Yes, And this is to be expected under a dictatorship- we are no longer living in a democracy. Wake up, before we reach the point of no return. No one is safe. The rule of law is dying. Trump and the republicans support a authoritarian regime
If cold is an issue, come between June and end of August. It's toasty warm during those months. Although the really hot temps like Utah or Arizona rarely happens, we do get a fair bit of 85 degree days in summer.
It warms up in summer, I can promise you that. We have a shorter summer than the folks in the US but between June and start of September, it's just like a normal summer here.
Yah, I should have specified that I'm in Manitoba and we've been known to get snow as late as May long weekend, and it usually freezes here by mid-September. BC, Ontario and other locations are much warmer than what we have here in MB.
Oh yes, for sure. Ontario here, and yes, it's not uncommon for snow in May! I lived up north growing up, and I remember it once snowed on my birthday in June🙄 That only happened once, thankfully!
The Grouse Grind Trail is located in North Vancouver, BC. It is a very steep trail that starts at 300 m elevation and climbs to 1,100m over a distance of approximately 2.5 km.
The hike is rated difficult because of its steepness. There are no flat sections – it is straight up.
Canada is a great place to go between July - September when it’s hot in California. It’s filled with nice, kind intelligent people. Californians love Canada: They come help us during fires … They are true friend's. A nice thing is Californians can just go through Oregon & Washington & avoid MAGA’s.

Quebec City’s pretty amazing as well!
I have a tiny squeegee that I bought there (it's for goggles, but I keep it in the car to use on my side mirrors after going through the car wash)!

I'd pay my last dime to see this irl
Banff is truly a gift.
Over 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam: now Nike, Under Armour and GAP have products made there.
I think we’ll have a lot of company.
Even the Grouse Grind, which I was tricked into climbing by my marathoner wife and her ultra-marathoner friend.
Straight F'ng up..
Thanks for sharing this lovely photo. Canada is beautiful. Congrats for climbing the stairway to heaven.
I'm in awe.
I am quite happy with looking from afar 🌳🍃🏡🌿🌳
The hike is rated difficult because of its steepness. There are no flat sections – it is straight up.
So funny!
Well, I hope you grabbed a couple of pints at the top and enjoyed the view and the gondola ride back down.
I'm glad I did it.. but now that I know..
