OPINION | More than three decades of studies have found stadiums to be consistent money pits, unjustified as worthwhile public investments via @iyer-report.bsky.social

This story is @weratedogs.com worthy. Good dog. 🥰🥰 www.npr.org/2025/04/16/g...

You are either pro-democracy or pro-authoritarian. Being "neutral" functionally means being pro-authoritarian.

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

The first rule of resisting tyranny is "Do not obey in advance." This cowardly behavior from the UA is appalling & infuriating. Our universities are "hubs of cultural dynamism in a state that could otherwise be a backwater." Admin needs to buck up & act like it. tucson.com/news/local/s...

"Tesla’s value remains wildly inflated because people still believe Musk matters more than he does. Break that illusion, and both his influence and his empire begin to wobble." It's time to push our non-fascist electeds to leave the Bad Place. open.substack.com/pub/anandwri...

😤 🗣️ Just when you thought #AZLeg Republicans couldn't sink any lower, they cooked up an idea to strip money from vulnerable families and tear disabled kids from their homes. WE HAVE GOT TO SPEAK OUT. Here's how 👇

Shame on Planned Parenthood of Arizona for dropping their trans patients because of threats from Trump. What happens when they make you stop providing abortions? Birth control? PReP? Gonna roll over then too? These orgs complying are cowardly.

"On Tyranny" is a #1 NYT bestseller again. I wish the moment were different. But I’m glad the book is useful. And grateful for all the kind words about putting the 20 lessons to work. snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-les...

Please, if you love anything about this life, stop using ChatGPT and other GenAI. Just stop. Don't use it to dunk on it, don't use it for a laugh, just stop and let that shit wither.

Not just an unconstitutional overreach: "Slashing funding for our libraries and museums is a short-sighted and destructive act by an authoritarian government that shows no regard for the pursuit of knowledge, truth, or our shared heritage." 🔥 Thank you @azagmayes.bsky.social #HandsOff

A great read: "When the Nazis occupied Denmark in the 1940s, noncooperation was near-total. No one remembered how to run the railroad. Teachers left school early to tend their gardens. Factory workers slowed or stopped production altogether." wagingnonviolence.org/2025/03/resi...

Combating the firehose of lies with properly framed truth. Call it what it is: reckless endangerment. reframingamerica.substack.com/p/funnell-th...

THIS. Please read this thread. 👇

Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century." snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-les...

Think the Trump regime's swath of destruction won't touch you? Think again. My oldest kid's college roommate gets grant funding for her education. This week, the new regime made it disappear, & roomie's rent payment bounced. Everyone in the house now has to pay rent via MONEY ORDER. /1

I love leaving voice mails for my senators where I say things like "the USPS is very important to our country" as if I'm helping a small child with a book report or describing our civilization to an alien

Currently appearing at UK bus-stops. More of this pointed ridicule, please.

Every ten minutes here is like: - Trump doubles student debt - Musk now has keys to your house and is in your bathroom doing plumbing drugs - Three planes just crashed - Trump signs EO making women illegal - Face-melted Nazi from Indiana Jones now in charge of CIA - Meteor not arriving fast enough

"First they came for public schools and I did not listen..."

The country survived Andrew Jackson, but he did massive damage, and a lot of people died. It's up to us to make sure that isn't the best case scenario this time around. No one is coming to save us. It's up to us.

This fantastic article explains why our collective problems can only be solved with collective action. CEBV exists to make collective action easier. Don't just doom-post! Join our mailing list at cebv.us, read our Weekly at cebv.substack.com, and learn what you can do.

Seen on my news and academic feeds today: "This is highly illegal!" "Where are the courts?" "Someone needs to arrest him/them!" "The military needs to oust them!" "WHERE ARE THE DEMS?" This is the denial stage of grief. None of the above institutions are coming to save us. We are all we've got.

"(47) is acting like a king because he is too weak to govern like a president. He is trying to substitute perception for reality. He is hoping that perception then becomes reality. That can only happen if we believe him." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/02/o...

If you're trying to keep your heart focused on the work that you're best-placed to do, it is, unfortunately, a great day to use this procedure @kateschapira.bsky.social and I worked on. I'm going to add a few ideas and songs that I find helpful in this process. Thanks to all who contributed ideas!

Boy, have I enjoyed my 2 weeks off social media. I needed that! Now back to work. Once more unto the breach, dear friends...

Yes, he said slave labor. He's not wrong. So why are prices still so high? It's time we place blame for this mess (gestures broadly) where it belongs: on a broken system built to enrich the rich.

“Either democracy was on the ballot in November, or it wasn’t, and if it was, it makes no political, ethical or strategic sense to act as if we live in normal times.” Dems: act like you mean it! Acquiescers will be primaried. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/18/o...

I thought this was the entire point. But apparently tens of millions missed it….

once again, it’s possible that Americans have broad contempt for elites because they have accurately intuited that most elites fold like cheap suits in the face of danger

🤔 DID YOU KNOW? Arizona’s ESA voucher program costs have skyrocketed to over $830M per year — and growing. These massive costs are diverting money that could (and should!) be used to lift Arizona’s public schools out of 50th place in the nation for funding and resources. #AZVouchersbytheNumbers

This is your regular reminder that voters respect politicians who articulate — and fight for — their values. If you're a politician, govern accordingly.

Wow 🔥 "There is something metaphorical about the tumbleweed... this rootless, amorphous thing spreading seeds everywhere without regard for the damage it might be doing. There is a manifest destiny, misguided American Dream connection there." www.kjzz.org/the-show/202...

The AZ Legislature doesn’t reconvene until January, but efforts to renew critical funding for K-12 schools have already begun. One of the most pressing issues is the renewal of Prop 123, set to expire in May. The #AZLeg must continue this critical funding for our under-resourced public schools.

Governor Hobbs forgot to add “protecting and funding public education” to this list 🤦🏻‍♀️ Let's remind her by adding it under “other” and submitting? secure.ngpvan.com/1QR0kk2-F0ef...

People are often surprised when I tell them this: both Twitter and Facebook/insta/threads are now specifically engineered to downgrade, hide, suppress real journalism. If this platform is different, that's a huge change

As an Indian, as someone who lived in Egypt, and who has, modestly, remained committed to my politics despite that, here are my rules for living under fascist regimes: 1) Focus on organizational structure. 1/
