I like the kind of people who go for 2 first serves at the social tennis.

Thankfully instagram mobile website is pretty unusable and uninstalling the app is making me use it a lot less. Should have done this ages ago.

Shall we start one @xoneha.com ?

📣📣 Restate folks seems to be building some really interesting stuff and you all should check this out.

Happy St George' Day!

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic www.crabmuseum.org/visit 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀

Putin wants to murder more people, Ukraine wants peace, and Trump wants to use the war to make a fortune.

LT killed the queen. JD killed the pope. That’s all I’m saying.

If you know, you know

Unthinkable just 10 years ago: Almost 3/4 of the EU’s electricity in 2024 was from renewable energy sources and nuclear. Gas and coal electricity generation is at record low levels.

So the White House story is now: “We didn’t mean to threaten Harvard, because we didn’t mean to send the threatening letter we sent, but when Harvard rejected the threats we made but didn’t mean to make, we decided to threaten them twice more.” The country is now run by thugs and idiots.

The front page of the leading Hungarian news site today. A Hungarian software engineer decided to visit his aunt in the US (who lives there on a green card), work remote while visiting, and fly back 2.5 months later (return flight booked) Interrogated, arrested and sent back.

At this point I’m so utterly grateful my younger self for moving to UK instead of US. Holy hell my brain wouldn’t have been able to ignore any of this and would be having constant anxiety and panic attacks.

Ending the government's free, easy-to-use tax filing service means giant tax prep companies get a big boost while working families pay more.   That's what "efficiency" means to Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

fun fact: ASAP can also mean as slow as possible.

I want to tell you why the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia should matter to you. The one power you cannot give the executive is the ability to imprison or expel anyone regardless of their legal rights. That is our key check against autocracy. And we are watching it disappear.

Wrote a thing at how the Bukele/Trump meeting, full of absolute nonsense and bullshit in support of out-and-out fascism and despotism, is yet another dark day in America. www.techdirt.com/2025/04/14/t...

Being a Ferrari fan is just pain. What are they doing with strategy today!?

I’m just gonna treat bluesky like instagram since I’m trying to stay away from that shitty app.

“vietnam has been very unfair to america and owes us compensation” is a wild take

As the author of a history of concentration camps, I would like to emphasize that this is a very bad idea, and we should definitely not do it.

Just so we’re clear: the only thing this woman did in that bathroom before DeSantis’ goons arrested her was wash her hands. That’s the whole story. That’s the “threat.”

What the actual f is going on anymore!?

Window kitty.

Found this cat at the local garden centre.

Played for the 29th time this year.

Are there any good style guides (ideally for Python) that describe order of parameters for a function? How did we end up having things like context/clients etc as the first argument? Wanted to raise this in a code review but didn't know how to really explain my thoughts. Any good prior art?

I’m unreasonably happy about having some sunshine and daylight left when I get out of office after 6pm. London outside winter is so bloody gorgeous 😍

Even by AWS standards, "Amazon Linux 2023" is a pretty terrible name.

This is now a cat picture account.

23andMe declared bankruptcy and the company is gonna be sold off for parts. That includes your DNA information and the only amount of control you have is to delete your info immediately. It’s very simple to do. Gift link: wapo.st/4kUsBEF

More cats!

Started getting physical newspapers again and this feels good!

One of the tiny perks of working for a software company other than Apple is that you can just send PRs to projects you use at work without any ceremony. So nice to not have to deal with painful internal fork dance for even the most trivial changes :/

Graber’s shirt — which directly copies the style of a shirt that Zuckerberg wore onstage recently — says Mundus sine caesaribus. Or, “a world without Caesars.”

How did it take me so many years to discover lazygit? Such a well made tool. github.com/jesseduffiel...

1/ The reason this is particularly bad—and undermines all the great journalism the Times does—is that it a) treats lives like a game b) will be seen as the view/cavalier attitude of the entire NYT, and not just 10 columnists, many of whom should have been put out to pasture long ago.

It's more than a little bizarre that the press was more vocal and judgmental about Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal than the current unscheduled rapid disassembly of our entire democracy and civil service.
