Finally got around to recording some video for my #saas project. If you'd like to take a look at what I've been building here's the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GTD... And if you're a church leader interested in taking it for a spin you can go head and try it out πŸ€“

New MacBook Pro arriving Monday, it'll be my first with an Apple chip. Currently running a 2020 model, so I'm actually mostly looking forward to getting an SD card slot and HDMI port back! And a slightly larger screen.

The world is a crazy place right now, but it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. Here's a little bit of positive nonsense to brighten up your Wednesday, and you can join us for more over at lnkd.in/eVa38kAG for the WeAreDevelopers Weekly Developer Show πŸ”΄ 11.30 GMT / 12.30 CET (in ~30mins!)

Been for a day out in Newcastle to discuss building a PWA (progressive web app) for a new client. I also saw The Sage (although I don't think it's called that any more) and some yellow chairs.

Edmund's been making things again: youtu.be/6OOnvPo6Slc?... #woodwork #duck

I don't always remember to share client work - but this project was fun and demonstrates some of the stuff I love doing most: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Lbg... A bespoke online booking tool for a long-term client, giving their customers a quick and user-friendly way to book their holidays.

Built a dynamic menu for my #saas website. A few lines of jQuery (yes, some of us still use it πŸ€“) move elements from the top level into the 'More' dropdown, complete with any children, as the browser size decreases. If the browser size increases these items are returned to their original location.

Becoming my own customer and building a #saas tool over the past few months has made me a better designer and developer. I can't recommend the process enough - whatever stage you're at in your career. Get on and build something, using tools which are familiar, but stretch yourself to do better.

This reminder hangs in our office. Good work isn't cheap. Cheap work isn't good. Don't undervalue yourselfβ€”and don't work with clients who try to get you to undervalue yourself.

Wise words, as always, from @nazhamid.com:

They say don't launch stuff on a Friday. I say it's fine, provided whatever you launch works! I've added conversion/sales tracking for a booking tool I just built for a client. I've never really tracked this stuff before, so it'll be nice to get a feel for the value created. #software

I've been helping a client with some communication stuff lately, as they try re-position themselves in order to attract a new kind of customer. Some thoughts: ✏️ Work out who you want to communicate to first and then tailor your message appropriately

Currently in hospital awaiting a hearing test - I'm losing my hearing and no-one knows why. On the plus side, hospital WiFi is pretty good and there's coffee. #silverlining

Just discovered this useful tool for creating duotone images: medialoot.com/duotones/ #photography #images #graphicdesign #duotone

🎀 New toys, ready for recording some video next week. Seem simple to setup with my Fujifilm, hopefully they'll do the job. I also like the fact I can use them with my Mac, so screen cast videos should sound the same as to camera shots. #rode #video #audio #microphone

Really enjoyed these live performances by Yussef Dayes. Kizuki Minami's vocals around the 32 minute mark are absurdly good too

Got sidetracked. #diy #renovating

Today's #saas tasks: πŸ—‘οΈ Option to delete profile once subscription scheduled for cancellation πŸ”˜ A couple of UI tweaks πŸ“ Help documentation Next week: πŸ“Ή Video content for launch email and website ✏️ Website content & onboarding flow Week 10th Feb: πŸš€ Launch!

Given myself a free trial of my webapp until 2521. That should be long enough to fix all the bugs πŸ€“ #webapp #buildinpublic

There's nothing like un-structured user testing to find all the little problems with your app.

All the development projects landing at once... Will have to get my #saas project shipped in the next week or so, to make space for new client stuff. Nice to be busy, but it's easy to go from just ticking over to overwhelm as a freelancer!

Has the shine worn off Airbnb, Booking[.]com, Foodhub and others? Platforms like these have seen huge growth in recent years, offering massive exposure to new customers for businesses who are willing to pay the price.

Fixed, I think. Combination of issues in the ICS feed: UID -> watch out for caching RRULE -> keep it simple and watch the timestamp (should end in Z) DTSTART & DTEND -> include timezone and drop the Z DTSTAMP -> set it to 'now' for safety Helpful tools here icalendar.org
