Nothing wrong with Ubuntu at all. They're the ones who paved the way originally to make Linux just work all those years ago. Maximum respect to the Canonical team!

Yeap I completely agree with that, it is a little restrictive and it's a shame. Things may change but that's up to the game studios unfortunately. I always say if you're into AAA titles, check first before you make the leap, you might be better off on Windows.

Also, dude, there's no hard feelings at all - it's just this misinformation has to stop. I keep seeing it and it's hard to let it slide, you know? Be safe and peace brother.

Yes I understand that, but you initially made the comment early stating "Linux is awesome if you don't need your PC for gaming". I can see that other people have chimed in and you have probably realised that your statement, for the most part, is incorrect. That's all I'm saying. Let's move on!

You're not using that as an argument are you? A Wyse terminal? The trouble is there's so much misinformation floating around on the internet about Linux. And repeating what others have said without proof to back up your opinions isn't really helping or elevating them to 'fact'

I don't think an operating system should be judged on its ability to run obscure hardware. But, if you want, you can hook up an old Wyse terminal to Linux with a bit of fiddling 😂 My experience is not supposed to equate to everyone else's. They can do that themselves. Check this thread for instance

I disagree. Linux on the desktop is literally the same. The hardware is not special at all and it's all running on open source software. I would like to know your source for this information because it doesn't line up with my actual experience at all.

The steam deck runs on Linux and is excellent for gaming.

ok, fair enough 🙂

Not snarky at all.

You can also look at Linux Mint. It's basically the same but is recommended for new users. Download a live ISO, install on a USB stick and boot it. Then you can have a play around without installing it to see if you like it 🙂

The only thing I would add is there are really two sticking points: 1) Some games will not work as they support kernel level anticheat for online gaming. Check the games you love first by visiting protondb 2) Some applications don't have Linux variants (yes I'm looking at you Adobe)

That's simply not true. Maybe 10 years ago I would go with this whole 'not user friendly, drivers' thing, but not today. And no, Linux is for everyone, not just programmers. Although the tools and programming is easier on Linux.

I picked up a cheap Thinkpad on eBay - rocking Fedora like my main desktop. I bought it especially to run Linux. Oh and put stickers on of course.

Are they separate? Only in name.
