Noticed this again when watching the match against Arsenal today 👀

This plot from the paper that Joris linked jumped out at me immediately. Anyone who's done any football analytics work is very familiar with the 'Messi zone,' and this paper is no different.

These are some of my favourite "tricks" that I've picked up over the last few years that have been particularly useful in soccer analytics.

Are they technically linebreaking passes if Spurs reject the concept of defensive lines

I mean he's just on another level

Scouting: Ahmetcan Kaplan The young Turkish center back had a rough start to life at Ajax, missing over a year with damage to his lateral and cruciate ligament. This season, he's returned from injury and is putting in some quality performances that clubs around Europe will be looking at.

I cannot wait to watch Kelly N’Mai absolutely skin Kyle Walker

It was refreshing to read a piece about a sporting director instead of the usual bits on players and coaches. Billy's thoughts at the beginning about how the identity of the club should drive everything, including coaches, signings, and tactics was really insightful and topical.

Watching the City v Liverpool highlights with my roommate (he didn’t watch it live) and the physical differences between these two teams is very noticeable. Any time City lose the ball, Liverpool attack the space at pace and the City players look like they are tracking back in slow motion

And less than 3 minutes later, both of West Ham’s fullbacks have scored and it’s 4-2 before forty minutes!

What on Earth am I watching in this Arsenal game right now⁉️ Goes to show how important Ødegaard is to this team. They look completely different than they did two to three weeks ago

An El Shar volley goal on a European night⁉️ It feels like 2012 again

Fotmob only has us at 2.90 xG for that match, but it easily could’ve been 4.0+ if someone got on the end of any of the loose chances in the box that Sancho, Nkunku, Felix, and Chukwuemeka were providing. Thought it was a particularly poor performance from Guiu. The opportunities were there.

Finally someone gets on the end of one of Jadon Sancho’s balls across the middle of the box

Disasi and Badiashille are both laughably bad on the ball. Low ceiling players due to their technical deficiencies. The difference in on-ball ability between them and Tosin/Colwill/Fofana is massive

Although slamming the penalty wide is not ideal

Bradley tackles Mbappe, Luis Diaz wiggles his way out of trouble and plays a brilliant trivela trough ball to Salah, who carries half the length of the pitch, turns Mendy inside out, and wins a penalty Phenomenal football from Liverpool.

Silas with a goal and an audacious, perfectly weighted, no-look through ball to set up a beautiful chance within the first 15 minutes against his parent club Stuttgart

How Diallo was not starting previously is beyond me

And now he goes and provides Maddison with an unreal assist while playing on the wing this guy’s creative switch has been turned fully on

The difference that Ødegaard makes to this Arsenal team cannot be understated. Every part of their game looks miles better than it did without him. And this is coming against a good Nottingham side

His diversity of goals is also impressive. He can strike from a set pass, play a Trossard-esque one-two to create space and finish from a tight angle, or run in behind and calmly slot past the keeper

Eli Junior Kroupi (18/CF/🇫🇷) may be the next big thing to come out of France. He's currently playing for Lorient in Ligue 2 after the club got relegated from Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season, where he scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists. He currently has 7 goals and 1 assist in Ligue 2 so far.

After a summer transfer saga that ended in failure, it seems #NUFC’s interest in Marc Guehi is not over. With the 24-year-old 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 international centre-back entering the last 18 months of his contract, there’s a chance that @jamieorrell.bsky.social's image & this 🧵 of analysis will not be in vain 🔽

Mohamed Salah recently suffered his 168th Premier League foul since the summer of 2018, meaning he has finally passed the total Jack Grealish suffered in 2019/20 alone.

My proudest sporting achievement. Tulane Intramural Soccer Fall 2024 CHAMPIONS 🏆🏆🏆

I am really intrigued by the transfer market strategy of signing players who were big youth stars at top clubs but didn't quite live up to their potential and rejuvenating them. Good examples include Takefuso Kubo, Moise Kean, and Riqui Puig

One of the best pieces I have read in a while. Would highly recommend!

Really interesting piece about how the Segunda division works tactically. Give it a read!

I'm absolutely ecstatic to see Estevão play for Chelsea next season. This level of output from a 17 year old is unreal. How are you the top goalscorer and assister?!

WHAT A STRIKE DIGNE
