Hi, BlueSky. It's Hillary. I've joined up here to help get the word out about an important election in Wisconsin tomorrow, and other ways to defend our democracy against those who think votes can be bought.

Sure, the termination of US funding for RFERL could be a massive gift to the enemies of freedom, but it could also be a great opportunity for the EU to establish a publicly funded pan-European media company, leveraging RFERL’s existing human capital and infrastructure.

Really wish folks would have looked up "social dominance orientation" when we still had the chance to prevent this sh*t.

Read Aaron’s thread and his replies to various folks to get a sense of what DHS can and cannot do here regarding Mahmoud Khalil, a recent Columbia grad who helped lead the Gaza encampment and was detained by ICE today.

Only in America could a Ketamine-infused South African oligarch call a navy captain, astronaut and sitting US senator "a traitor" for supporting our allies and standing up to Russia...

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Stanford University have developed a dual-antibody treatment that remains effective against ALL SARS-CoV-2 variants by targeting a less-mutable part of the virus. This breakthrough could lead to longer-lasting therapies that OUTPACE viral evolution. 🧪🧵⬇️

A dictator doesn’t ask for ammunition, he would have taken the ride! Like Viktor Yanukovych

We are one news cycle away from Trump giving military aid to Russia.

So far, Trump’s art of the deal is to give Russia whatever it wants in advance while asking for nothing from Putin. At the same time, he has tried to extort Ukraine for mineral rights. Once again, he seems not to know or care who America’s allies and enemies are.

After #SCOTUS blocked Biden's student loan program, he attempted to achieve similar results through a program based upon a *different* statute. That's not "defying the courts" any more than Congress did when it relied upon the Commerce Clause, not 14A, to enact Title II of the Civil Rights Act.

Purging dissent in the security services and giving loyalists power is something we *instantly* recognize in other contexts.

So what happens when Musk has total control of the labor and budget numbers and can make them say whatever he wants or just disappear? What is the backup for understanding the state of the economy? Or will it be like Russia and China, making things up?

What can the opposition party do? Like, actually *do*, right now? Five concrete things the Democrats can do to fight Trump:

Acting DC US Atty Ed Martin MUST be investigated by ethics authorities It looks like he was on both sides of the same 1/6 case! We explain in our letter to the Office of Professional Responsibility 👇 statedemocracydefenders.org/wp-content/u...

We were just denied entrance into the EPA after asking to meet with a DOGE representative. More to come.

This is a start but, to be clear, still nowhere close to maximum obstruction. No UC, on anything. No unrecorded votes, on anything. No waiving rules, on anything. Fight even on adjournments. Quorum calls every time you can. Make every dilatory motion in the books and new ones you just made up.

Tesla's sales are sliding across Europe, plunging 59% in Germany in January.

If you want a long, but very thorough, read on just how crazy dangerous the situation is with Elon, @brockm.bsky.social has laid it all out in a single article. Please read it. www.techdirt.com/2025/02/05/t...

Truly, a must read. We have seen this playbook before. “The Twitter Files were just the dress rehearsal. The real performance is about to begin, and this time, it threatens to undermine crucial government functions from international aid to public health infrastructure.”

Five years ago today Mitt Romney announced that he would vote to convict President Trump in his first Senate impeachment trial. I've watched a lot of Senate speeches in my time, and this was one of the best. Worth taking a few minutes to read it or watch it. www.politico.com/news/2020/02...

the Oversight Committee immediately devolves into chaos after Democrats call for Elon Musk to come and testify

Add to the list of MAGA copying from Putin’s to-do list the garbage circulating today from RFK Jr telling refuted Kremlin myths about the Maidan revolution &USAID in Ukraine. People don't spontaneously arrive at conspiracy theories. There's no factual basis for them and we know where they started.

The proper response for members of Congress blocked from entering a federal building "on the orders of Elon Musk" is to say "who's that?," keep trying to enter, and if physically obstructed, either push in—get arrested on camera if necessary—or get officers to arrest anyone illegally barring you.

Attacking NED, the National Endowment for Democracy, is also strangely high on the Musk hit list. Interesting from someone with no foreign policy interest beyond bashing Ukraine and endorsing fascists. If this to-do list had been written by Putin, how would it be different?

DEI hiring is problematic when it becomes a priority, but if the Trump admin is supposed to be a meritocracy, the only merit they seem to care about is personal loyalty to Trump. Replacing identity politics with a cult of personality is not an improvement.
