Finally deactivated and deleted X. I don’t know why it took me so long.

Political life is brutal. I’m thankful to PM Trudeau. Thankful he spoke with me and our 2021 roundtable about Covid19 vaccine roll out. He said to us, “I demand that you continue to advocate.” I responded, “I accept your demand.” We need decent people to lead. Worried re what’s next in Canada.

Now that @altmetric.com is tracking Bluesky posts seems worth reposting our study showing the remarkable impact of community mask mandates in reducing transmission once you adjust for differential testing by age group. academic.oup.com/pnasnexus/ar...

US media are picking up on my speech calling out Donald Trump's attempt to bully Canada. Not on my watch Donald. Not now. Not ever. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Csnz...

Winter wonderland out there. With snow comes shoveling. And with exertion, sadly, comes heart attacks. Also we have a middle-aged and senior patient population, whom we adore and want to preserve. Expensive for family medicine, but we now have an AED. May we never have to use it!

I have some points of disagreement with the report of the House Select Subcommittee on the Pandemic, but I’m delighted to see that they’re focussed on origins. My colleague Valentin wrote an excellent and compelling article on the likelihood of lab leak at WIV. vbruttel.substack.com/p/why-sars-c...

My COVID hair & me in July 2020 warning that to stave off continuing suffering we must recognize that COVID-19 is caused by inhalation dose of viruses in respiratory aerosols. Sadly, too many have still not acknowledged this fact. Never rocket science, folks! www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUP5...

Being wrong is hard. If anyone who has downplayed the harms of COVID wants to stop doing that, I vow to have nothing but grace for you. I’ll go to bat for you and you will be awesome.

🏳️‍⚧️FAQ for posterity: Why do you use pronouns in your bio? Because it's an easy way to promote inclusivity & to increase awareness of gender expression. It costs me nothing, &because I work with kids who are establishing their identity it shows that I don't make assumptions. /1

Young child with possible leukaemia goes to hospital for bone marrow biopsy & ends up in ICU with RSV We need mandatory masking in healthcare. A baby can’t protect themselves. You can’t take a “you do you” approach with an infant. www.disabledginger.com/p/a-plea-to-...

Infected with Covid? 3x more likely to get mycoplasma.

“It’s never too late — in fiction or in life — to revise.” -Nancy Thayer

Spoiler alert, the study found it was *not* healthcare disruption causing the increase in babies born with heart defects since COVID started infecting people.

1/ Why are we concerned about the BC H5N1 case? The sequence shows mutations we have been watching for that facilitate human-to-human transmission. The severity of the case The mode of transmission remains unknown. Airborne precautions are not being implemented in their care

👏Suicides continue to fall in Canada👏 Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, there has been an ongoing decline (well past periods of pandemic) in suicide rates in Canada. Going to the end of 2023, we can see significant decreases. /1

"If you’re a health-care worker who sees a patient in a mask, put one on for them. Don’t make them ask. Don’t psychologize them. Don’t betray the trust they’ve shown you. They’ve put their lives in your hands. Don’t take that for granted, it’s not an easy thing for many of us to do"

Update: MPs from all 4 major political parties had the chance to question representatives of Canada’s flawed breast screening guideline task force. Politicians were unanimously in support of better healthcare for Canadian women, watch them advocate for us from 12:06 parlvu.parl.gc.ca/Harmony/en/P...

I spent a long time writing, and living through, this story about my dad's healthcare journey. It's the most widely read, and consequential, piece I have ever written. Posting it here for anyone interested who may not have seen it. ottawacitizen.com/feature/the-...

With H5 very much in the news and Canada's Dr. Bonnie Henry once again in the spotlight, I think I should remind everyone just what type of public health official she is: The book on her desk is "Soap and Water & Common Sense," her work that she rushed to have reprinted as soon as covid struck.

Would have been nice if @governmentofcanada.bsky.social and Province of Ontario actually ordered #Novavax so Canadians didn’t have to travel to the US to access it. @cancovsoc.bsky.social

Excellent discussion by Daniel Park of 3 recent papers on the Novavax SARSCoV2 vaccine. Better durability and cross reactivity and milder side effects than RNA vax. That's the way it appeared from early data, but it's good to see that confirmed. threadreaderapp.com/thread/18576...

Ottawa people: look who is here! 🎉

Our newest paper on #CorsiRosenthalBox es. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a... Gr8 prolonged performance at 9 hrs/day & 7 days/week for $70. Degradation of CADR over study, but still well above $250-$600 HEPA units for particles in size range of respiratory aerosols. Never been rocket science, folks.
