Look at these MCPs. JSONs are so popular right now. I love visiting HTTPs. Did you get my latest words?

recommendation algos are based on my behavior not my desire. if anything they make it harder for me to access my desire and pollute my decision making. they show you how you behave, not what you want. behavior can be coerced.

design is not the way things look. development is not the way things function.

Kind of a fun one to revisit from the deep archives. Using Sass functions to generate CSS custom properties with raw fallbacks in 2016. We've come so far...but also in so many ways we have not. codepen.io/jak_e/post/c...

been trying very hard to utilize ai creatively in some coding endeavors. it’s really good at getting me excited to board and then it strands me on islands with no way home. building by hand, with all its limitations, at the very least comes with an oar and a canoe. i’ve never felt more limited.

my favorite thing about prompt to code in 2025 is when it generates "© 2024. All rights reserved." in the footer.

Love seeing @jake.fun make a plea for a more creative web. Some of us have never stopped this pursuit but it has felt a bit lonely lately when everyone is trying to prompt to a solution. Join the ever evolving party. 🎈 www.figma.com/blog/why-dev...

season finale of using js in the @figma.com console www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2bM...

A little something I've been working on: encoding audio in image data and playing them back like audio cassettes. Code is open source along with a bunch of other projects. youtu.be/p5-9wCbeqoQ

idk maybe you’re into this sort of thing i sure am youtu.be/HO4fb0n-LO0

Try running plugin API code in the JavaScript console and see what happens

new year, new website :) with thy surest steel gathered to thy side, turn to face these new nightmares, these...True Terrors (of the New Dark Web) plenty to do but i'm thrilled to publish this 🤍 thanks a lot if you end up taking a look, but hark! go heedfully: scroll with caution & with care!

trying something out

ai sends me down rabbit holes that don't even exist while it hurls our planet into the sun.

there’s having an idea and hiring ppl to see what they come up with. then there’s building exactly what you want to see. working with ai today is the former not the latter.

Honestly, as shocking as Claude can be, it's just not there yet. I wrote good code originally, then spent all day yesterday polluting it with generated code trying to make it more sophisticated, and am now pulling it all back out to write the complex bits myself. Exhausting.

The Cameron Winter album that came out today is a work of art. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xee_...

how it feels to do UI design without a designer

inputmode=“numeric” or “decimal” sound lovely until you need negative numbers 🥴

looking at people’s total minutes in spotify wrapped realizing i’m in way too many meetings

NOW That’s What I Call a Ratio 2024

on my latest personal work the last 10% is literally 300% and counting.

i don’t know how to prove it but i’m convinced the idea of web “community” has shifted over the past decade from people exploring the immense wealth of the net together to a select few anointing their own authority and accumulating followings by slinging transient hot takes.

my flavor of adhd is hard because stillness is not restful. getting in the groove is fulfilling but can lead to overwork. once i’m focused, creating space to redirect my energy is overwhelming and always abrupt.

trying to leverage ai to make my coding life easier but still can’t shake the sense that i’m introducing bugs when generating anything larger than a function. refactoring is where i need it most but that’s also where i trust it the least due to my experiences thus far.

i used claude the other day to help me write some net new web component stuff. it wasn’t bad. took some handholding. since i’m still learning a lot in that space it was nice to lean on. had i already been an expert it probably would have been immensely frustrating.

i don’t want to compile web code ever again. typescript is the only thing left keeping me from going full nilla.

i’m really excited about this thing. not too long now…

Spent some quality time with @aussie.bsky.social IRL last night. Experiencing goodness always feels like a reminder of how hard it can be to find time for it as you get older. Deeply thankful for the buddies.

Airport club people watching is on another level. Men in full business attire parading around like waiting for an airplane is a serious endeavor while holding a stack of like seven large cookies.

Staffing the @figma.com booth at React Summit and giving a lightning talk about collaboration on Tuesday. If you’re around for the festivities, come say hey!

let’s hang monday, nyc!

great book, i have one. well worth it at full price let alone with the huge discount! historic work.
