There are specific parts where I felt that the stain of linking these two stories really showed, but it's not that serious.
I can see why you liked the show. It does have some clear strengths.

...baggage of Watchmen. And because they tried to squish one story into another you ended up compromising both. The plot contorts the original narrative to make it something different than intended, and the original story traps this story in the cage of Watchmen lore. It just sort of bummed me out.

Actually. That's the crux of my "beef." It's not about the integrity of Watchmen (not entirely) it's about the fact that they had actually created a good separate story and smashed it into an existing IP. I felt like the story they gave us deserved to be told on its own, and not trapped in the...

I have serious issues with the show both conceptually and narratively. I think it did a disservice to the original work, it's creators, the talent involved in the sequel and the audience. I ended up feeling like everyone deserved better. It was like a perfect synergy of corporate exploitation.

One day in the 1980s it was parked across the street from my home for like 8 hours. It was a wild day for all of us kids in the neighborhood.

I saw B&R in the theaters when it came out, I remember a father carting his child out the theater about half way through saying "I can't watch any more of this s#$t."
It's the only film I've seen that people booed at the end. I thought that only happened on tv.

You're not the only one. During covid, there was a raid on penne for awhile in my neighborhood. Angel hair, linguine, farfalle, no problem at all. But penne, you had to scoop up when you saw it.

2. Funny that you thought Hot Fuzz with the horse scene. When I first read the scene in DKR I thought of the scene where indiana jones jumped on a horse (spurring similar boyhood excitement from me) to chase down the trucks transporting the ark, and now that then-topical reference is dated lol.

1. Might be fun to discuss Armageddon 2001's spiritual homage to DKR as a 5th week bonus pod, or if you ever want to discuss the Armageddon crossover as a whole. It was definitely one of the better entries in the crossover. For whatever that is worth.

...a question to answer as you seem to think it is. People just want to win at this point. It may be short sighted in the long run, but I don't know if it's such an immediate or unreasonable concern to waste energy getting angry about, 20 odd days or so before Trump starts his second term.

...remain in place. So, "liberal trump" to some may seem as good a solution as any. Hell, actual Trump is largely built on the same fears I'm describing. So, while the post is, perhaps, in poor taste, I don't think the "we hate Trump so why would we want our own Trump?" rhetoric is as easily...

Cody, tbh, I think there's a disconnect between the reasons the gang at SMN hate Trump and why others hate Trump. I will not make light of your grievances with Trump,/conservatives, I don't know you, I don't know your life. However, I know for a lot of people, the issues with Trump are more...

With that said, I don't believe feigned apathy on a topic you do care about is a solution. When a content provider makes a racist/sexist/homophobic attack on some "woke" item, I know it's in bad faith, but I hate the real harm this causes to people. I don't think it's helping anyone to say nothing.

Acting like there's just one answer is just a gross oversimplification of the problem. Each "solution" has its own tradeoffs, and what "winning" looks like is largely subjective and depends on your goal. Is your goal to make X person look dumb or convince people that Y thinking is dumb, or both?

The problems today are "new" and "old." They're the same issues that occur when any new form of communication takes hold. The printing press, the radio, film, tv, all created the same issues of how to respond unwanted information. Should the Church have responded to Luther? Did McCarthyism work?

There is no quick and effective way to deal with bs. Ignoring the nonsense, actively debating, dunk posts, deplatforming, or even violence, people have tried forever to persuade, discourage, or prevent others from engaging with content they feel is harmful or "wrong", there's no easy answer.

Exactly. Can't "fight" this until you come to grips with how f#$ed things are. If people are tuning out, i dont blame them . they're doing a little self care, it's how they're coping. And it's as good a thing to do as anything else I've seen.

Awesome episode. I think the summary approach works for Venom. I think it will when you guys get to the Punisher, Danny Ketch Ghost Rider, the Grey Hulk, etc. The 90s edge characters are usually harder to nail down to a particular story (Azbats being an exception) but they had that "it" factor.

So many things wrong.
1. There is no functional difference between "blaming" groups and saying dems needed to ignore a group to win. Either way, the message is that X groups hurt the election.
2. Who is this "electoral majority needed to win?" What are their politics? And how do they conflict?

It might have been passable as a popcorn 90s light scifi action flick, but it was part of the "Alien" franchise, so it annoyed everyone.
It's like going to see a Blade Runner sequel and getting 2004's "I, Robot" instead.
(No offense to anyone who liked I, Robot.)

That makes it worse to me because it's so unnatural a format, it shouldn't be counted. It should be separated. I'd mind it less if it was some dopey preseason tournament that didn't impact regular season standings.

I think there is something to the integrity of a regular season and some people are put off that the season is interrupted by a gimmick.
In the same way everyone hated when baseball decided homefield based on the ASG. Like, there are ways to make things "matter" without resorting to gimmicks.
