The republican party of today is a far cry from what it used to be. About midway through the 20th century, the GOP and the democratic party evolved into the very opposite of themselves. Worse part of this evolution, too many folks today have no clue.
I will happily concede, to any MAGA redhat, that Lincoln was a Republican back in the 1800s, if they will in turn tell me which party an honest to goodness Klansman would vote for, here in 2024.
A few years ago, Boston's NBC and CBS Affiliates swapped Networks. Now, SNL is not on channel 7 anymore.
And that's kind of what Republicans and Democrats did in the early 60s.
Am I really the only one here who like American Beauty and thought he absolutely deserved that oscar? I even saw it again on tv recently and didn't change my mind.
This may unleash the ire of some, but I believe Kevin Spacey was. Very much a victim of the times. There’s no doubt he exercised poor judgement and bad behaviour. It’s likely he made a few people very uncomfortable. However, he paid a very high price for his actions. /1
The one exception I will reserve judgement on was the case of the young lad with whom he behaved inappropriately. There was no excuse for his behaviour in that case. /2
I am no “chick magnet” and I didn’t grow up in a hillbilly town. However, I was “hit on” by 3 “mature” women between the ages of 14 and 18. This was wrong. In one case the “lady” was very persistent and very drunk. I felt very uncomfortable but I extracted myself from those situations. /fin
The names of the parties switched, not the people. The entire old South was "Democrat" in the 1860s... those of the same mentality are living there still... promoting confederate ideals, happy to enslave, ignorant, cruel. They're simply called "Republicans" these days.
The original Republican party was the Black Lives Matter of its day: a party founded for one reason, and one reason only: the end of slavery. After that happened, the party was repurposed as the party of wealth and power.
Tbf he would also probably be furious that Panama has sovereignty over their canal, that the Philippines are an independent country, and would probably annex Greenland just because, so it’s a mixed bag. T.R. was a progressive imperialist.
Lincoln was a Republican. Lincoln was also (probably) the least vindictive person who ever lived. Lincoln knew, studied and adored the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. Lincoln would kick Trump in the nuts, hard.
"Republican" like an Irish Republican!
Four heads of American communism Used to be Marx, Engels, Lincoln, and Douglass, since he corresponded with Karl Marx himself. The original "Lincoln Project"CPUSA used to actually organize protests, do real shit, and feed people. Now it's all just posturing...
"Labor is prior to and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."—Lincoln the "Anti-Capitalist"
All of the people talking about Lincoln should go brush up on "the southern strategy" and what Strom Thurmond was doing for decades after switching parties to them.
It's why I say that the Republican't Party has been, with brief and limited exception, a blazing dumpster fire of racism, fascism and criminality since the day after Lincoln was shot...

Both think limiting welfare recipients is about minorities.
And that's kind of what Republicans and Democrats did in the early 60s.
"well, no, but I want credit anyway"
No notes.
