Last week, my son lost his first tooth. Unfortunately he also swallowed it, leaving me with one just option: to get to work forging some government documents. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

Great Britain is great for a reason!

It's good that there's a 25% tarriff on imported coffee now. This will incentivize people to purchase American coffee, grown in the New Jersey coffee forests

There may be many reasons to worry at the moment, but this is particularly sad to read.

800 year old York Minster now has 184 solar panels installed, which will generate 70,000 kWh of energy, enough to deliver a third of the Minster’s electricity requirements www.maxfordham.com/practice-peo...

If Margo in the Good Life had been called Hannah, then the cast list would have read: TOM / JERRY / HANNAH /BARBARA and that would have been amazing.

On Christmas day in 1643, male physicist Isaac Newton was born in Lincolnshire, England. Though he never did marry or have children, Newton made important contributions to the field.

Sometimes you don’t need to do your own research. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Happy a violent dictator is gone, worried about an uncertain future, concerned in the knowledge that authoritarians often replace authoritarians and that power vacuums create serious problems, and hopeful about finally having a possibility of better, all at the same time, is a very human reaction.

Pleased to see the assisted dying bill recieve its second reading this afternoon. Now the bill will go into committee and those who are concerned about the drafting can submit amendments. It will be interesting to see if critics will engage constructively, or if they will continue to simply oppose.

Wow. Here is one to brighten up your morning. The first images of the restored interior of Notre Dame cathedral. Breathtaking. In just five years France did it

Time to leave the house and fly the dog like a kite.

Well this escalated quickly…

Goodness, this is a hard hitting piece. Well worth a read.

When botanist Richard Deakin examined Rome’s Colosseum in the 1850s, he found 420 species of plant growing in the ruins: cypresses and ilex, pea plants and more than 50 types of grasses. But some flowers growing there mystified him. They were so rare they were found nowhere else in Europe.

Piece by Joshua Rozenberg on recent guidance on social media use. He picks up the point that its application to fee paid judges (and non-lawyer tribunal members) looks like quite a serious new restriction on their professional and political activity. open.substack.com/pub/rozenber...

A whiteboard from our Jan 2023 team retreat where I wrote down our goals, and the top one was “10k user signups.” We’re growing by 10k users every 10-15 minutes right now.

A quick social experiment. The same tweet, posted at the same time on here and on Twitter, commenting on @joannahs.bsky.social’s brilliant piece on the exodus of criminal barristers. Bluesky replies on the left. Twitter on the right.

A brilliant example of strategic comms in action - it is far better to achieve engagement with your target audience than gather arbitrary clicks.

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting. Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.

OK I did one! It’s not very specific. These are just some interesting people who I feel have helped make Bluesky better over the year or so I’ve been here. go.bsky.app/6E1Dx6H

To celebrate the new thread feature & because it's a good time to remember that doing small things is better than doing nothing, here's my only thread from Old Twitter that went viral. Seven years ago, when I moved in, I inherited what I thought was an overgrown tip at the bottom of my garden...

Corrélation n'est pas causalité.
