I must book a trip to Adelaide to visit the Art Gallery of South Australia, which is home to a number of sixteenth-century portraits, including this gem! Robert Peake painted this portrait of Lady Reynell of West Ogwell in c. 1595. Absolutely magnificent!

Seen in the London underground.

The Brexit effects on the UK car industry keep rolling... NB to avoid the allegation of simplistic takes I am advised to point out that e.g. German and Spanish production has also declined in this period. But not by half.

I'd love to see a proper analysis of how we're going to find the people to build the third runway at Heathrow, several new reservoirs, 1.5 million houses and various other new infrastructure without mass imigration.

Been a long time in coming — too long — but now looks like UK will seek to re-link Carbon markets in upcoming Brexit “reset” talks. UK traders will be relieved to avoid carbon border taxes if it gets done. @georgewparker.bsky.social @andybounds.bsky.social and me in @financialtimes.com EXC

A striking finding on Conservative voters, who would choose the EU economic relationship over the US one. It reminds us, above all, that the Tory coalition has shrunk. But it also tells us something about the possible further costs for Badenoch of the route she is going down.

This is going to be an increasingly sensitive issue as it isn’t only the usual rich country suspects pushing back vs Chinese mercantilism. Rising incidents of trade conflict seem likely, along with more emphasis on indust policies.

Zuckerberg's about-face on content moderation is a pretty useful lesson for governments. Peter Kyle said government has to treat big tech like nation states because they are so powerful. But Trump hasn't done that. He demanded they bend the knee and they have. It's worth knowing.
