Any time a home burns, it's awful. My childhood home in Santa Barbara burned in 1977 when I was eight. The fire had been started by a kid with a kite, and the winds - 90 MPH gusts, like we've seen in LA this week - did the rest. That 8 year old in me still feels it, the loss and the fear.
