Is this a good use of generative AI? No. But also, yes.

Other than that, Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?

Cons: This is insane rambling that means nothing. Pros: Maybe Internet weightlifting discussion boards of the world will finally know how many days are in a week.

As early-career colleagues start thinking about autumn job applications, I wrote a piece describing my post-PhD path. Reflecting on "project," "person," and "place" with mentors helped me immensely, so I hope this note pays it forward somehow. www.wlallen.com/wp-content/u...

Fixed term post available at Southampton based in the National Centre for Research Methods. I don't know the details, but can connect interested with people who do. Screen shot/alt text from ad. Application closing date Tuesday, June 24. jobs.soton.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx...

A post-doctoral opportunity in Germany (must be in the state of Lower Saxony). Open to applicants from overseas. (To clarify: I have nothing to do with this and am just forwarding the call, I don't have further information). The Volkswagen Foundation is a public agency that has no connection to VW.

With the US indicating that it might bomb the Gulf region, I strongly encourage all reporters to check their Signal accounts.

Re-upping this in light of the Brad Lander detention.

In the past week, a union leader has been arrested, a U.S. Rep charged with a crime, a U.S. Senator violently handcuffed, and reporters shot with rubber bullets and detained. There is no ambiguity. This is a regime operating as an authoritarian. Americans who believe in liberty must oppose it.

People often comment that they like my shadow CV: saramitchell.org/shadowCV.pdf

The most popular thing I did on the old site was telling people about my rejections. Failure and rejection is a big part of academic life. It happens to all of us -- well, at least everyone I know. This thread lists mine and is founded on the hope it helps other people cope better with their own.

From an actual email to co-authors processing reviews after a rejection: "My biggest take away: The theory addicts are jonesin’ for a fix. As I know [co-author] is a GnR fan, it’s like the song Mr Brownstone, but instead of drugs it’s theory" I used to do a little, but a little wouldn't do it...

What is a “full magnet”?

Most hilarious autocorrect error yet: Asking a co-author what we should do with our manicurist.

Spurs thoughts: 1) Still sad Ange is gone. Even if right choice (debatable), I really like the guy. 2) I'm strongly warming to Thomas Frank. He's better than other PL options. (Seb Hoeness is the one I wonder if Spurs are missing a trick by not pursuing.) I think TF can win back the locker room.

To whichever team hires Ange next, I’ll be rooting for you. At least until you play Spurs.

Thank you, Ange!

This!

Between constant Tory leadership turmoil and now Labour (maybe) headed that direction it feels like football teams firing managers. It probably doesn’t make a big difference. You need better players (policies) that get results (economic growth for its own sake and to relieve budget constraints).

I’m not a business genius or anything, but I don’t think Elon’s new burning bridges startup is going to work out for him.

As Spurs fans, are we just in a weird Hangover movie where Levy is avoiding us because he lost the coach?
