Support the troops baby!!

Tump's bullying is just his psychopathic personality. Vance is, actually, kind of worse because he's strictly doing it to impress other guys he perceives as tougher. He's like the punk ass kid who takes a kick at someone after the bully knocks him down.

A hell of a lot of the California National Guard is made up of people from immigrant communities, fwiw.

Good lord, how can anyone serious about science even consider cutting funding for Flybase?

Just published, expansion in situ genome sequencing, where you can sequence DNA while still inside the cell, mapping its organization relative to proteins and other markers, with the help of expansion microscopy! Led by @jbuenrostro.bksy.social. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

God please. One on every corner.

Amazing news that she’s finally free

New York Times article on NSF www.nytimes.com/interactive/... 1/2

It's painful to read this, 5 years later. Study finds no increase in Covid spread in nursing home after visitation bans were lifted. Implication: The bans, which meant months of isolation for nursing home residents and heartbreak of their families, did no good. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40383139/

So, if you search google scholar enough it will just flag you as a bot and then there's absolutely no recourse, nor a human that you can prove you're not a bot. Reminding me we shouldn't be outsourcing such a key academic service to a for profit company that normalized not talking to its customers.

30 year Treasury above 5%. Also, I successfully used AI to do a Trump/Truss crossover, putting a Trump wig on a lettuce paulkrugman.substack.com/p/a-liz-trus...

Although there has been many positive things happening lately for myself and my lab group, this week we've gotten the bad news of a grant termination, as the lead PI is at Harvard (and they've had all their federal funding terminated). It will be tough to stop the work that only last year 1/2

I remember a story in the Army where a commander was dubious about intelligence soldiers working with people who had connections with the Taliban and could we trust people like that and the intel officer replied "the people who don't work with the Taliban have no information about them."

I'm always intrigued by people who miss very obvious points in art they love. Things like: people who are mad that "Star Trek is woke" or Paul Ryan loving Rage Against the Machine.

The profile that Vinay Prasad deserves. He's presence in this administration is sign of Trump's commitment to endangering public health. Excellent work @lauralew105.bsky.social ! 🩺 #medsky newrepublic.com/article/1949...

In a medical breakthrough, a team including IGI’s @urnov.bsky.social & @giannikopoulosp.bsky.social created an on-demand #CRISPR therapy for an infant with a deadly gene mutation — developed, approved, and delivered to the patient in just 6 months. Read more: ow.ly/G0Bg50VTonC #RareDisease 🧬

Amazing that this has happened. Maddening that we are actively destroying the capability to do it again. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/15/h...

Some seriously nice biochemistry and cryo-EM of FAN1-PCNA-flapDNA complexes! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Terrifying

NEW: Saturn’s moon Titan has weather similar to Earth’s, but driven by methane evaporation and condensation. Astronomers have found evidence for clouds bubbling up over Titan’s northern hemisphere for the first time, using #NASAWebb and Keck observatory: webbtelescope.pub/3GofvQ1 🔭 🧪

Yesterday, the NIH R35 “Outstanding Investigator” grant to fund scientists in my lab studying antibiotic resistance was terminated for reasons not related to the content of the science, or any actions taken by me or members of my lab

Really appreciate having experts help track this kind of stuff!

NYC seems to love congestion pricing. Let's bring it to Seattle!

Your daily reminder that the U.S. Postal SERVICE is a service that is designed to benefit taxpayers and not a business that should be expected to turn a profit.

This is the perfect crypto story .

Oh amazing! Such a huge need for oligo studies to have a PET tracer.

Wow, as an early 90's computer nerd this guy was the enemy. Amazing to see him becoming one of the rare billionaire putting his money where his mouth is, and using his unique skills for good. 90's Jeff would be shocked.

@nytimes.com - "Doctor", in this context is for a physician. She's never had a license or seen patients right? So not a doctor.

I've just published my May article for @forbes.com. As usual, it was meant to be short. But it isn't 😅 🧪👩‍🔬 www.forbes.com/sites/laurie...

Wow!

Really sick of this bot feeling eerily appropriate.

What’s a lady Mensch?

You know that Twilight Zone episode where the kid has amazing psychic powers and can make people disappear with his mind and the entire town is hostage to him and has to cater to his every whim? That’s us right now.

Oh man, there's two things my lab manager won't let me get and it makes me really sad. A @nanoporetech.com P2Solo, and this light sheet microscope. Gotta go write a grant....

Exciting update from PTC Therapeutics ! The results from the 24mo PIVOT-HD study look great! Curious if the FDA considers accelerated approval with some kind of ph4 requirement for more post-approval data. Stoked to see *reductions* in NfL over 2 years in HD! ir.ptcbio.com/static-files...

That is all.

If AI was really smart, my spam filers would immediately know that any email containing the title of my most recent paper is a spam invitation to a totally unrelated conference.

Know who will love this? Joes that end up spending god knows how many hours standing pointlessly so they can stroll by the man child

OMG

Warning, whining: The people who get paid to submit NIH grants for me neglected to check a box to confirm a foreign collaborator, and so NIH pulled the grant that's supposed to be reviewed in a few weeks. Now, won't happen until Dec. I really don't need local help making NIH apps harder!!

With CBC now having called all ridings it's time for the land-vs-people-vote animation.

With so much science going on in the Huntington’s disease space, we’re bringing you a monthly recap from March 2025 to cover all the biggest HD science news and research we covered this month. Enjoy! en.hdbuzz.net/421

It's funny - as translational scientists, it's obvious that lab animals will get killed early if funding is cut. In the era when we actually care how our animals are treated and maximize the information we get from each, it's doubly cruel to lose them because of man babies in charge.
