Here's the 2025 pro sports facility lawmaker scorecard by political party through June 2025. Shaping up to be an expensive year for taxpayers. Teams have so far secured $3.6 billion (nom) in state+local taxpayer support with 70% lawmaker support overall.

RIP, Bobby Sherman

I'd like to see a headline that says, "Despite Lack of Progress or Financing, A's Hold Bizarre Groundbreaking Ceremony in Las Vegas". It's time for the media to get the framing right and really start putting the screws to Manfred. Don't be complicit in this charade by not calling it out.

I am reminded of the Joker's soliloquy on "the plan" every time subsidy-grubbing owners and enablers insist their stadium schemes are totally normal, framing people describing reality as delusional.

No, the A's stadium is NOT following "a similar track" to the Raiders stadium: when a year passed from legislative approval and groundbreaking, and all the financing was in order. It's been 2 years of the John Fisher clown show, a fake groundbreaking, and no financing. This whole thing is a joke.

I can confirm that Atlanta is more humid than San Francisco.

Nothing says a truly historic day and construction is definitely happening here like rented construction equipment that hasn’t actually been used on site. ☠️…wow!

LOL.

I don't think he is in it for money. It's about self-esteem. He doesn't need money.

Had a good visit to San Francisco. It can be an intimidating city to figure out for visitors, but a lot of effort has been made to make it more friendly. So many people are kind and patient. Everyone here wants to chat. I'll be back.

A well-deserved honor. Brad and Dennis have played a crucial role in promoting rigorous research on the economics of sports.

Manfred: Thank you for abandoning your duty to taxpayers to subsidize one of our most desperate nepo-babies.

Always nice to see our elected officials take time out of their empty schedules to celebrate the wasting of public money on an economically debunked stadium. #NVLeg #SchoolsOverStadiums

Always need shovels to clean up after the elephant.

The A's/Las Vegas groundbreaking ceremony is 100% eyewash. Fisher still doesn't have funding. There is very minor work happening on site so he's not in breach of various agreements, but this in no way represents actual stadium construction commencing. They're trying to play us all for rubes.

VSG is the same consulting group that said the Titans stadium needed close to $2B in renovations. I read their report, and it was ridiculous, its cost estimate was based on anecdotes of one other stadium with costs that didn't match up with published accounts. www.fieldofschemes.com/2025/06/23/2...

Took my first Waymo. Kind of mind-blowing.

Donald Trump just unilaterally bombed Iran. A masked gang is terrorizing our streets. America has rapidly devolved into an authoritarian state. That's why, today, The Onion has purchased a full page ad in today's New York Times with a simple plea to Congress: Sit back and do absolutely nothing.

On my way to the Giants game, and some guy just told me I suck at walking. Wait until he hears my thoughts on stadium subsidies.

When in San Francisco...

What a week. www.fieldofschemes.com/2025/06/20/2...

I'm not sure what to think of the rumored sale of the Rays. Assuming that the team would play "in a new stadium to be built" is more than just a loose end to tie up. And $1.7 B seems high based on valuations (eg, Forbes $1.25 B), even though the estimates should be interpreted cautiously.

There is no mystery as to why this area is seeing so many data centers being built. They're here because governments are paying them to open up here. www.ajc.com/news/2025/06...
