It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Research: Protected bike lanes result in approximate doubling of number of users in a network link. Roughly twice as many women as men become new users of a link when protected infrastructure is installed. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

I get frustrated when I hear public leaders prioritize objects over people’s safety, well-being, and even existence in communities. Recently, I’ve heard arguments that prioritize parking over people, trees over people and ferries over people. 😩 Beware of local control measures based on exclusion

Tonight, Bothell City Council voted (4:1) to endorse SB 5233 and HB 1445: companion bills guaranteeing universal healthcare for all Washingtonians. These bills have been cosponsored by 27 Washington state legislators. Tell your city leaders to endorse both bills too!

This is such good news 💚 Air pollution is the 4th leading cause of death for women, globally - so clean air is a win for women's health 💜 #womenshealth #airpollution #cleanair

Just one day’s supercommute from the exurbs (100 mile round trip) exceeds *2 years* worth of carbon absorbed by a cedar. So if you displace one working person into the suburbs to save one tree, you just created extra carbon equal to cutting down 500 trees, and hurt the health of countless people.

Apparently Atlanta GA Mayor Andre Dickens has figured out how to create thousands of units of new housing by rezoning under-utilized municipal land, and using public-private partnerships. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I’m grateful to see coverage addressing some of the challenges communities face when working with faith leaders and community partners to build affordable housing.

Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

If you live in Washington and want to help offset the injustices towards our immigrant communities, please follow these folks(WA immigrant solidarity network) and get informed and involved! bsky.app/profile/wais...

Just as Bothell’s Climate Advisory group began their work (on Monday of this week).

Oh hey, I remember providing similar comments when Bothell was considering adopting the 2025 comp plan. Like in Seattle, misinformation abounded.

Homelessness in the United States is getting worse. But homelessness among military veterans has been getting better. The difference is that with the latter, a HOUSING FIRST approach is used. And like everywhere else that it’s used, it’s working. And it saves money. So why isn’t it used everywhere?

One way to know is how quickly the transphobes accuse ciswomen of being trans. It’s all about policing the expression of femininity and enforcing outdated patriarchal expectations.

The Urbanist showed Bothell some love in this article about Eastside cities!

Wow, I never knew he said this. Jimmy Carter was ahead of his time—a man of unmatched kindness and integrity. Truly, he was too good for us.

This kind of smart, walkable, mixed-use urbanism is illegal to build in most American cities.

70% of Americans who receive food stamps and Medicaid work full time, with Walmart one of the worst offenders as the country’s single largest employer. Taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to subsidize corporations who get away with paying poverty wages, especially not while raking in record profits.

While veteran homelessness is down, children experiencing homelessness is up. Remember when the Child Tax Credit reduced childhood poverty by 50% for a few months? We could bring that back and make sure kids have a safe, warm place to sleep.

Just over here wearing my “All I want for Christmas is the abolition of the imperialist white supremacist capitalist heteropatriarchy” hoodie while we open presents as a family.

No evidence of cause & effect in this study but: “… the findings align well with existing evidence about physical activity’s benefits for mental health.“ Making it easier for people to walk as part of daily routines is an important part of boosting public health & tackling health inequalities.

In his annual health-of-the-nation report England’s chief medical officer Chris Whitty advocates for ‘15-minute cities’ www.forbes.com/sites/carlto...

To put a finer point on it: If you want a Trader Joe's in your community but you don't want to allow housing that a Trader Joe's employee could afford to live in, you're an advocate for traffic creation.

Great images showing the 40% pollution reduction in Paris thanks to bike lanes & traffic changes. It works and people in Paris are loving it! #ShareGoodNewsToo

This is the correct messaging. Shout it from the (3 to 5 story) rooftops. Pro-density = the moral high ground on climate

For the January/February issue of @motherjones.com, I wrote a column on the importance of making walkable cities accessible, especially as disabled people are more likely to not drive and take public transit. www.motherjones.com/environment/...

I received a question from a community member asking where single family homes can be built in the new comprehensive plan. These graphics illustrate how detached homes (single family) can be built in residential zones (shades of yellow on the map).1/2

Wild how basic economics work.

My family has a tradition of holiday giving because “as [we] have been given much, [we] too must give.” The Giving Machines are a fun and interactive way to do that. This one is located at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood WA. #LightTheWorld #PoorPeoplesCampaign

Bothell’s vision document aspires to “A Joyful Way of Life” for all residents, and the parks department literally brought JOY to the city this winter.

Bothell residents have been targeted by misinformation with the intent to delay adoption of the comprehensive plan. In my comments, I attempted to address some of the misinformation I have heard opponents repeating.

@kingcountymetro.bsky.social When does Bluesky get to see M-E-T-R-O G-O? 🤓

It’s widely accepted *that* less expensive housing markets see less homelessness, but this important piece shows *why*: family & friends have more space to spare worksinprogress.co/issue/why-ho...

Remembering my mother as one of the very good and the very gentle. 💔

Since we’re all telling United Healthcare stories, let me tell you about how my mother sought mental health care with UnitedHealth Care and was denied after 8 sessions. A few months later, she was sick with Covid & didn’t realize she was too weak to walk, resulting in a fall and a broken knee. 1/2
