Love podcasts? Love abortion? Want to get engaged in the fight for sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice? Have I got the (award-winning 😳) #podcast for you: @reprosfightback.bsky.social! pod.link/1327397412 (new episode out tomorrow) 🎨 by @liberaljane.bsky.social

⚠️TW: mentions of rape In this week’s podcast, @elissamio.bsky.social, reporter at @devex.com, talks with us about the devestating impact of the past few week’s chaotic attacks to USAID: www.reprosfightback.com/episodes-blo...

USAID had 13K+ employees, the majority of them working overseas to provide humanitarian aid, food assistance, & more. In this week’s #podcast, @devex.com reporter @elissamio.bsky.social discusses the impact of the Trump admin’s chaotic attacks on #USAID:

NEWS: The April SCOTUS argument calendar is out, including the PrEP/ACA preventative care arguments on April 21 and the Utah religious charter school arguments on April 30. www.supremecourt.gov/oral_argumen...

Today in Sunday Bakes: Bran Muffins

I know the people making these laws don't care, but for the rest of us: more evidence that #abortionbans harm pregnant people (including lots of people who never thought they would need abortions!). Infections, including sepsis, are still a leading cause of death in pregnancy.

NEW: Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%. https://propub.li/43487Tj

The theme of the day is “helpful” coworkers. Cinder graciously decided to help me proof a report this morning. Luna has decided to help me put away laundry.

Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes. You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment. My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc. www.reddit.com/r/Passports/...

I'm shocked they aren't complying. Shocked I tell you.

"USAID was the testing ground for vast reductions in government workforce." Listen to this week's #podcast with @elissamio.bsky.social at @devex.com to learn about the Trump admin’s dismantling of USAID, its impact on critical care and resources, and what it means for federal bureaucracy:

BREAKING: Nonprofits sue over Trump's anti-diversity, anti-trans executive orders, alleging they violate the First Amendment & equal protection guarantees, are void for vagueness, exceed the president's authority, & violate the Administrative Procedure Act. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

🚨 New Episode 🚨 This week on @reprosfightback.bsky.social I talk to the wonderful @elissamio.bsky.social at @devex.com about the admin's dismantling of #USAID. And in the intro I talk about what the freeze in humanitarian assistance will mean to @unfpa.bsky.social. #podcast

NEW: The National Science Foundation fired nearly 170 workers this morning. They include people who had already cleared their one-year probationary period only to have it changed to two years earlier this month. @kimzetter.bsky.social reports for @wired.com www.wired.com/story/nation...

Quite an exchange here between Judge Reyes and DOJ attorney on how "pronoun usage" affects military readiness.

🚨 SCOOP: DOGE is seeking personal taxpayer data at IRS, sources tell me. 🚨 Trump admin is pushing IRS to agree to an MOU that would give DOGE access to granular data on every taxpayer, business and nonprofit in the country.

“We’ve given up everything to serve our country overseas,” one evacuated USAID employee recalled thinking, “and we’re being maligned by the richest asshole in the world.” www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Feeling a little bleak today, but I just got sent a bunch of cheese from home. This is how Wisconsinites show you they love you. 🧀 💜

I got a tip that the Defense Intelligence Agency removed several non-white history pieces from its museum, and put an exhibit honoring women at the agency into storage. A DIA spokesperson confirms they yanked 3 "DEI" items from their museum. www.huffpost.com/entry/donald...

🚨NEWS: Massive layoffs are about to hit the IRS -- around 10,000 employees -- potentially in the middle of filing season. Of particular interest to the DOGE: Cutting IRS enforcement capabilities. -- with @jeffstein.bsky.social + Hannah Natanson

Termination notices going out this afternoon to more than 300 employees of the National Cancer Institute. Access likely ends today. Four weeks paid leave and that’s it. Strong power move for Team Cancer.

Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Fetal Personhood is about more than abortion, It's about pregnancy criminalization too! Check out our new fact sheet on Fetal Personhood: whonotwhen.com/s/Fetal-Pers...

NEWS: I am awaiting the written order here, but we have a second TRO against part of Trump's executive order restricting access to gender-affirming care for trans people under 19.

Yesterday, JAMA published a piece showing that abortion bans have led to a 5.6% increase in infant mortality bc (1) bans bans force people to birth babies with severe fetal anomalies that do not survive & (2) bans affect high-risk patients the most. Short thread: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

About 1,300 employees at CDC are expected to be fired by the Trump admin today, and more at NIH Those at CDC include entire first year class of CDC's "disease detectives," the Epidemic Intelligence Service Some at CDC are referring to it as the Valentine's Day Massacre www.cnn.com/politics/liv...

In this week’s #podcast, @chrisgeidner.bsky.social of @lawdorknews.bsky.social sits down to talk with us about the Trump admin’s drove of heinous Executive Orders attacking transgender health and rights, their already-felt impacts on trans folks, and what to expect in the near future.

This is true! The Turnaway Study found that most people feel relief after their abortion.

There's a protest at Stonewall. (This didn't go well for the haters last time around.)

Profiling Jonathan Mitchell without mentioning the Comstock Act is like profiling Ted Kaczynski without mentioning mail bombing. How. Why. What are we even doing here ballsandstrikes.org/law-politics...

"Women & girls...have a right to bodily autonomy & self-determination. But by shutting down USAID & belittling SRHR w/ his “condoms as bombs” claim, Trump is fueling the perilous idea that SRHR & GBV programs are wasteful, suspect & a kind of cynical punchline." thehill.com/opinion/inte...

Our two papers on abortion bans and fertility/infant mortality are now out. In 14 states w/ abortion bans, fertility increased 1.7% and infant mortality increased 6%. Key takeaway is that these impacts were disproportionately felt among those w/ greatest structural disadvantages. Links below.

Strong rumor with credible sourcing: DOJ has put all of public integrity line attorneys in a room and told them they have an hour for someone to choose who will sign motion to dismiss and if nobody does, they will all be fired. The nastiest strong-arming in DOJ history by a long shot.

Appalling, soulless erasure that will not stand. Still up, for now, on the site are pictures of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who would have words (or more) with whomever at the NPS did this today.

NEWS: As The Washington Post reports, a TRO was issued today in the PFLAG case filed in federal court in Maryland against enforcement of Trump's anti-trans EOs restricting funding for medical centers that provide gender-affirming medical care for minors. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...

This week @hegemommy.bsky.social and I talk about Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Comstock Act. #BoomLawyered ***** The Trump Administration Is Coming for Your Access to Contraception, Abortion, and… Dildos? rewirenewsgroup.com/2025/02/13/t...

Trump’s EOs have targeted & scapegoated trans people at every turn—denying trans kids care, forcing trans women in prison to be housed in men’s facilities, banning trans women from women’s sports, & more. @chrisgeidner.bsky.social of @lawdorknews.bsky.social breaks down the EOs & the fights ahead:

Let's go 💪💖

1. In a memo released this week, the DODeA, running schools for US service members' children around the world, announced mass book bans and removal of "gender ideology" material. Books removed include trans people's biographies. The latest from Mira Laazine. Subscribe to support our journalism.

This is quite literally what the WHCA exists to prevent. The general idea behind its creation was that if one outlet got mistreated, the rest could band together to counterpressure . The fact that they won't/haven't is sad.
