Balint: And now the United States stands with Russia and North Korea against Ukraine and all of our allies in Europe? It’s sick

We are, unequivocally, the Bad Guys. We have been before, and we will be again, no doubt, but this one is particularly repellent.

Says it all really, the age of US international leadership is dead and buried.

America is, currently, the bad guys

That Waltz, Hegseth and Witkoff over the weekend on their tv hits could not say Russia was responsible for starting the war was one of these most pathetic displays of cowardice I have ever seen-and they must live with this for perpetuity.

Every time I think thing can’t get worse, the appointees can’t get worse, Trump says ‘hold my beer.’ I am stunned, even by Trump standards, that Dan Bongino, a man even Fox got rid of, is now the new deputy director of the FBI. We are so effed.

It should be hard to be simultaneously evil and comically stupid in equal measure, but here we are.

Oh, you have got to be kidding me.

The official policy of the United States of America is that having values or believing in the rule of law is the equivalent to having a fetish for watching your wife get nailed by a stranger. That’s Trumpism.

These guys make Chamberlin look like Churchill

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

"During the meeting, Ukraine was told it faced imminent shutoff of the Starlink service if it did not reach a deal on critical minerals, said the source, who requested anonymity to discuss closed negotiations." Astonishing betrayal of an ally. www.reuters.com/business/us-...

Simply horrible people (every single one ) and a confluence of musk world and maga that brought it about.

I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

Ukraine was very corrupt when run by Putin's stooges, and Zelenskyy has been more aggressive than prior leaders about addressing it, for the simple reason that they can't afford to waste resources. Putin, on the other hand, is estimated to have looted $200 billion. www.nytimes.com/2023/09/18/w...

Americans HATED Jan. 6. That the political opposition wasn't able to harness that and turn it into a lasting defeat of Trumpism will be one of the defining stories of the 2020s, if not the century.

This is why I really have no time for the "behind the scenes, Republicans say yadda yadda yadda." This is a public-facing business. If you tell a reporter you don't want to vote "aye" then you vote "aye," who cares?

Patel is an unqualified extremist who probably perjured himself, receives money from Russia & China, and has made clear he will weaponize the FBI to pursue Trump's political enemies. The only Trump appointee who did not make is Gaetz, seemingly for being an insufficiently loyal Republican.

Some international conflicts are complicated, with competing historical claims. This one is not (unless you are Glenn Greenwald). A dictator engaged in a war of conquest, invading a democratic neighbor. Not recognizing these basic facts is to side with the aggressor.

having trouble processing all the bad tbh

This is incredible reporting that must shock the conscience of each and every one of us.

I enjoyed that little flurry of fake news reports that Trump and Putin weren't really talking, or that Putin was mad at Trump the "russia hoax" was always real, and this is an extremely well funded global authoritarian assault on law, informed consensus, empathy, and democratic order by sociopaths

NYT: “.. Like his assertions a day earlier, [Trump’s] comments were filled with falsehoods.” @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/2025/02/19/w...

Trump was always on Putin's side. 77 million American voters decided that our country should be on Putin's side too.

Trump likes being #2, he likes doing the PR work, being in front of the camera, getting the adulation, but serving the boss. Musk will dominate him at home and Putin will dominate him abroad. He will deliver their lines, as he has just done for Putin in shocking fashion, and does for Musk every day.

“It’s a disgraceful reversal of 80 years of American foreign policy,” said Kori Schake, who is the director of foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute and was a national security aide to President George W. Bush.

"Putin is a war criminal and should spend the rest of his life in prison - if he is not executed." – base from Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker.

It continues to amaze me that those who know & have suffered under Putin know who he is & what he does, while too many Americans still believe we can “strike a deal.”

I watched Hannity's interview with Musk and Donald Trump so that you didn't have to. It was, as George W. Bush might have said, some weird shit www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

They were careless people, Trump and Musk — they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that held them together.

Not sure we’ve ever had a president who hates Americans as much as this asshole does

I’m angry, every day, about so many things. but I think I’m angriest about how stupid and unnecessary and careless all of this, and how many innocent people will die because of it.

No one in Republican world seems to have a lot of curiosity about why Musk needs people’s personal data to engage in government cost cutting

Just absolutely clueless www.cnn.com/2025/02/16/p...

"I always expected the first few weeks of Trump’s second term to be bad. But I did not expect to watch Trump and Elon Musk take a flame-thrower to the American government while congressional Democrats engage in the political equivalent of ASMR videos." thehill.com/opinion/camp...

Fact check: nearly 70 percent of US money for Ukraine actually went to US defense industry to replenish the stocks of OLD stuff that went to Ukraine to use. Much of which we would have paid to destroy as their lifespan expired.

seems like it is a big deal that the unifying ideology of the doge team is neo nazism

Sheryl Crow has sold her Tesla and donated the proceeds to NPR. “My parents always said... you are who you hang out with”

Reagan is rolling in his grave, and Stalin is feeling vindicated.

Seriously, these are the stupidest people in America, and that's saying a lot
