'The American state has been captured by a group of people who do not see the world as we do, who are hostile to the world as we want it to be. We must see them for what they are to their credit they don’t pretend to be anything else. To our discredit we lie to ourselves that they do'. Excellent.

It's really frustrating how much of "saving the ocean" focusses on changing the ocean, not changing the humans. The ocean is *not* the problem! It's us that need to change It looks like To Kill A Mockingbird, where everyone feels smug about helping somewhere else, not changing their own behaviour

Very cool, and very interesting!!! "The Genomic Code: the genome instantiates a generative model of the organism" by @wiringthebrain.bsky.social www.cell.com/trends/genet...

This is especially true when you look at the stats. In biomedical (esp more clinical) it's very hard to find papers that are sufficiently accessible for the bio and use stats that are covered in UG courses.

Interesting thanks for posting this. A good example for my teaching getting students to distinguish between findings presented as absolute number or as proportion. They are so often mixed up.

Great blogpost on an important topic #lthechat

Royal Statistical Society Section for Teaching Statistics has arrived on BSky!

Thank you for articulating this so clearly

Writing is thinking. It’s not a part of the process that can be skipped; it’s the entire point.

An important paper from the National Academies on Rethinking Race and Ethnicity in Biomedical Research. doi.org/10.17226/27913 Especially relevant for our symposium next week - 12th Dec at the British Pharmacological Society annual meeting in Harrogate. www.miceconciergeme.com/pharmacology...

I crocheted a daffodil and it actually looks like a daffodil!

I'm very happy to see my article "Genes, Culture and Scientific Racism", coauthored with Marc Feldman, published in Proc Natl Acad Sci USA (see rb.gy/x0e4lw). We explain why people wrongly believe race is a biological classification.

Two weeks until our Symposium "Ethnicity, ancestry and race: reconsidering their meaning in pharmacology education and research" at the British Pharmacological Society meeting in Harrogate Pharmacology 2024 www.miceconciergeme.com/pharmacology... Thurs 12th Dec 1-2.45pm

today's reading - Alan H Goodman's crystal clear writing ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/epdf/10.... Can/should I set a 24 year old paper by an anthropologist as recommended reading for medical students? #medsky

Thanks to the thousands of scientists who have experimentally solved more than 100,000 structures over the decades, deposited the atomic coordinates to the @pdbeurope.bsky.social over the past 50 years and without whom nothing would have been possible. #nobelprize #chemnobel #alphafold

Why are we teaching Mendelian genetics in schools? Because it is the basis of genetics some would say. If you want to know why we should not teach it anymore register to this @NARSTorg webinar (Monday, November 4, 2024): members.narst.org/events/Event...

Just received a lovely email from a student to thank me for recording a tutorial and providing the answers so she cd catch up. Remember the students with long term health conditions who want to attend. Sadly she's experienced a lot of ableist responses from others.
