Where are you located? I’m in a swing county of a swing state. Our local Dems are very active with many volunteer ops

She's highly educated, a former Biden voter in a swing state, yet believes TikToks that promise her free stuff from Trump? And this woman's AP Government teacher (!) says people who don't comply with "transparency" are "criminals"? What?

But maybe call it something else that doesn't have the bad vibes? Like Freedom2029, or Democracy2029, US2029? Etc.

But Dems literally said Trump’s a fascist, democracy is at stake, SocSec and Medicare is at risk, and tariffs will drive prices up as well. People either didn’t see the message or dismissed it as hyperbole. What should be done differently?

Problem is, the average low-info swing voter doesn’t know any of this. It’s not being reported in whatever media or social media they follow. They’ll only wake up if they don’t get their tax refund, Social Security, etc, or their kid’s school closes for lack of funds

So,a retired lawyer/gadfly/blogger did a FOIA, and the Fairfax Times merely relayed his findings. The paper apparently didn't do any of their own reporting and didn't even contact the school district for comment. Clever PR by a guy with a political axe to grind, but very poor journalism by the Times

Yeah, the district’s own website says this office provides “universal accessibility for students with disabilities”. We can cherry pick other aspects but the salaries are likely in line for special ed teachers/admins

I subscribe to @inquirer.com and they do both local and national coverage. But true, a lot of local papers have been decimated

People used to spend more than that to receive a daily newspaper

Me neither. The band is literally sons of the original members of Cream. For those who don't google, Cream is the '60's band that Eric Clapton was in, before he went solo

I wish all bakeries would do this! Why do some bakeries even bother to stay open in late morning/early pm after they've sold out of almost everything? That's poor planning and poor customer service

💯 Vacations are supposed to be fun, not full of drudgery

Yep, those signs were all over Bucks County PA too. I’m curious who came up with them

True, NYC subway system is complex. But it's part of the fun of tourism to try it. I rode the subway successfully in Rome before smartphones and I don't speak Italian. Just used a little printed subway map

Actually, with the Recovery Act (ARRA for short) I remember the state DOT (in my state of PA) did put up road signs to indicate ARRA-funded projects back in 2009/10. Plus press releases and a website mapping all those projects. For the more recent law, there's a federal website but not road signs

Yes, it will be a disaster if that happens but he doesn't care

Not defending him but pretty sure he’s referring to eliminating federal dept of Ed, or at least much of the fed regulations

I finally remembered! It’s “Berlin Got Blurry” by Parquet Courts

Enjoyed the session. Ps what is the bumper tune that played during the show at about 8:20 pm or so? It was an instrumental version of a song that came out a few years ago I think. Spaghetti western style guitar + 60’s organ riff. Racking my brain and just can’t remember thanks

I mean, I know it's real, but sounds like something you'd see on the Onion

This could be an Onion story

The median household income has actually risen since the eighties FWIW. But no question, certain things affect young people the most - rents/starter home costs, student debt. Those definitely have gotten worse. home.treasury.gov/news/feature...
comment in response to post
And that’s the point, ppl think it was better back then because they weren’t there, or didn’t study history. Some things are better today (ACA & Medicaid expansion for as long as it lasts), and some worse, like student debt

Agreed but the problem didn’t start w the grandkids. Started in the 80’s, the Reagan years. Anyone born after mid 50’s has had a harder time buying a home and saving (except maybe those in tech or finance)
comment in response to post
Ok but 1975 was nearly 50 years ago. And for half that time, our country elected GOP presidents who commodified the housing market + favored the rich. The ppl who couldn’t afford homes didn’t show up at the polls in the past. And this time, some did show up and voted for the guy who’ll make it worse

Would be nice if a "very Philly Christmas" would shoot in, say, Philly, instead of Boston

Thank you George. I would add, that includes local elections. Municipal or county government, school board, etc., they affect your taxes, your children's education, your local parks, and more. So get involved and join your local party org or help local candidates' campaigns

Lies have been around since human existence, nothing prevents that. But before deregulation, FCC required all stations to provide diverse viewpoints and not fill their airwaves with extreme views 24/7. Not a perfect system but better than nothing
comment in response to post
But when the doctrine was in effect, stations had to at least provide airtime to opposing views
comment in response to post
That’s correct, FCC under Reagan in the 80’s got rid of it. This directly led to the rise of Rush Limbaugh

Yes I know he was VP and decades as a senator but, more to the point, he was always known as a moderate white guy who grew up in a working class area of a swing state. Harris was none of things and, right or wrong, that put her at a disadvantage
comment in response to post
Yes and the ads worked to define Harris because she was otherwise an unknown quantity to low info voters. Biden was a known quantity in 2020 as “likeable moderate Joe from Scranton” + the right has never effectively countered that. Biden was taken down by inflation and his own aging, sadly
