NIH had two tracks for the same fellowship: those from underrepresented backgrounds and those not. Both usually get funds. Rather than merge back to one track to comply with their understanding of executive orders, they essentially rejected without review all the ones on the underrepresented track.

We learned with genuine sadness of the passing of famed singer/songwriter Kris Kristofferson. Cesar Chavez went backstage in the 1970s to thank Kris when he headlined fundraising concerts for the UFW. They maintained a lifelong friendship, and Kris stayed active in our movement.

Study out a few days ago found that after white-nose syndrome caused bat die-offs and thus reduced insect predation, farmers increased insecticide use by 31.1%. Infant mortality rates in those areas then rose by almost 8%. Bats are good, save bats. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
