H1-B scarcity is a pretty new thing though, I think? Presumably if we are relieving demand on the order of magnitude of the international college student population, it could go back to being rigorous but not impractical...

I don't think we should sell it. If you're a foreign national who graduated from a US college, we already invested a ton in you. We have every reason to try to keeping you and your human capital here. Every graduate should get a green card, imo.

As for "invasive", the only thing that feels invasive here is that there are now unvetted and unelected individuals being given unprecedented, unchecked and likely illegal access to personal and corporate data held by the government.
