From ballot initiatives to local elections. ⤵️

All this talk of a new “Golden Age” feels really icky. Monarchs have golden ages. I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of an American Golden Age. Right?

Israel’s Cabinet approved a deal early Saturday for a ceasefire in Gaza that would release dozens of hostages held there and pause the 15-month war with Hamas, bringing the sides a step closer to ending their deadliest and most destructive fighting ever.

I hate that this has to be said in a moment of tragedy. Disasters bring out the best in people—but also scammers looking to profit off tragedy. Before you donate, double check. Stick to orgs or verified GoFundMes for people you or friends know. Your kindness deserves to truly help. Sending love.🥺

We had tickets to see the Broadway production of Wicked at the Pantages Theatre today, at 2. They decided to cancel today’s shows around 12:30, at which pint we were already on our way to Hollywood, so we didn’t get the message until we arrived. A couple years ago we had tickets to Les Miz …⤵️

If you don’t have a local library card, it should be your New Year’s resolution to get one. It’s an easy resolution to keep and you’ll actually use it, trust me.

If you are in the affected California fires area, excellent advice! Keep your pets in to ensure their safety from wildlife fleeing the fires! Keep buckets of water out for them. Stay safe, my friends.

Here's some more info! #CaliforniaFires

Sen Adam Schiff has set up this link to accept donations in the wake of the catastrophic Los Angeles area fires split equally among LA Fire Department Foundation, United Way of Greater LA & LA Regional Food Bank secure.actblue.com/donate/q1202... #StrongerTogether #LAProud

I think Lex Croucher is my new favorite author.

The LA Times has a good list of places offering discounted or free food and coffee to displaced families and/or first responders. Check it out and double check to be sure what deals are where. (added this to my running resources list) www.latimes.com/food/list/lo...

It’s Time to Get Ready, by Jared Yates Sexton Worth a read! open.substack.com/pub/jaredyat...

It’s weird, isn’t it, that Octavia Butler predicted this. Almost beat for beat. I don’t mean to be woo. And prophecy is above my pay grade & outside my expertise. I’m just saying. 😳

Let's all send our thoughts to the fire victims & thanks to Sally for gifting us this article. I hope you'll share this post, read the article & tell folks about the disinformation. We have a chaos agent about to enter the White House. Trump has no help to offer at all, just wicked cruelty & lies.

L.A peeps! A message from the owner at Calico Fish House. Anyone who has left LA and headed south. You are welcome at our restaurant, 16600 Pacific Coast Highway, 92649. We have a large parking lot, you can stay as long as you need and camp out. We will provide free meals for all of those affected.

Here is an ongoing list of LA restaurants that are offering shelter, food, and support to first responders and evacuees: bit.ly/LAaid

Just a reminder that if you are in the area of the fires, leaving a bucket of water out for wildlife (and displaced dogs and cats) can literally save their lives.

You will read countless times today that the LA mayor cut the LA Fire Department's budget by $23 million. That is a lie. The budget was actually *increased* by $50 million.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

I don't know if the LA fire department is properly funded or not but the claim that the city cut its budget last year — which is circulating widely on the right — is false. As Politico notes, the budget actually INCREASED by $50 million. A portion of the funding was approved in a separate bill.

Just finished Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson. It was a fun YA mystery, very similar to the Truly Devious series. My favorite quote was part of a theme that ran throughout the book, about how when evil is done in plain sight, we begin to think it is normal, and no longer question it.

For those evacuating with pets in LA: Hilton’s Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton, Tru and Canopy brands are all 100% pet friendly. Even cats! And a lot of hotels are waiving pet fees atm. Good on u Hilton! Pun intended: that’s hot.

I think I’m finally finding my people on this platform. Many of them have the word “unhinged” in their profile.

These teenagers and young men — 95% of whom are Black, Latinx, or Filipino — earn between $2.20 and $4 per hour, plus an additional $1 an hour when they’re actively fighting fires, according to the DJJ. ⤵️

The best thing you can do is starve Meta for revenue. Never click on or buy anything through their ads. Never pay for an ad to sell a product or advertise an event. Never do anything again that will put one cent in Mark Zuckerberg's pocket!

As we witness these heartbreaking scenes from the fires in LA, an important reminder that incarcerated people make up over 30% of California’s forest firefighters. www.motherjones.com/environment/...

Good morning friends🦋. Todays tip: Your local library. Update your library card! Use it! Libraries have more than books. A lot have free passes to museums, plays and events. Go visit your local libraries!!!🦋🐾🦋🐾

ICYMI – Meta is shifting its trust and safety team from California to the red state of Texas. Maybe they should also ditch the title “trust and safety”?

Reps. Higgins and Biggs just introduced H.R.7 into the new Congress. What does HR7 seek to do? Well, despite its fluffy pro-women-sounding title, it is actually a demand for a nationwide abortion ban. Read that again. Summary here. Call your reps ASAP. www.tiktok.com/@usmcangryve...

Doing some curation of who I follow on here, and working to follow back. Still not sure how often I’ll post here, but looking for community.

Just a reminder that your local library has more than books! Many also have dvds, cds, video games, game systems, internet hot spots, streaming services, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, and so much more! Maybe it's time for a visit! ❤️📚

This is how you do it. Stand for something. And tell the revanchist haters or cowering appeasers to take a long walk off a short pier because you’re going to continue to make the world you want.

Yes okay it works youtu.be/66M8NwkRmew

What would you have done when Nazis were putting Jewish people in ovens? Would you have stood up? Would you at least have spoken up? Do you care about the fate of our immigrant community? If you do, please share this: www.chirla.org/resources/ad... Lives are at stake! Stand up!

Sometimes I’ll go get coffee and tell them my name is Frodo, that way when it’s ready they go “large Americano…for Frodo” and then I answer “For Frodo!” and nobody laughs and then I take my coffee and go drink it alone in my car

Not good. He's suing the Des Moines Register (and possibly Ann Seltzer), for simply reporting on a poll. Well done, ABC, for rolling out the red carpet for a new press suppression strategy. Well done. newrepublic.com/post/189441/...
