as ever, if you ask people if they think art should exist for their enjoyment they will say yes, and then if you ask them if the people making the art should get paid for it they'll tell you "no that's a fake job"

NYT found the “big beautiful bill” would be the largest transfer from the poor to the rich in a single law since at least 1990. In fact, it would be the largest transfer *ever.* Reagan’s low-income cuts were MUCH smaller - and his tax cuts were done separately. And before him, nothing comes close.

Please remember that a police “primer for protesters” that tells you to report suspicious behavior to the police stands a good chance of getting police escalation and making the protest less safe for everyone.

when she describes these skirts as usable as smuggling vessels she ain't kidding. A pocket holds a Switch in its carrying case *easily*. I swear to spinny I had no idea pockets could even be that big.

i need romancelandia to report back on the Materialists. i havent seen a reviews from anyone who doesn't have a clear disdain for romance and rom coms.

Basically a majority likes the idea of immigration crackdown but don’t like the reality of it. They also love cutting back on spending but don’t like the reality of it. In short, public opinion is a fickle mistress. Don’t trust her.

Not sure how to say this, but even if Padilla hadn’t identified himself (which he did), throwing someone to the ground and cuffing them is a wildly disproportionate and fascist way of dealing with a press conference interruption

The politicians putting the military on the streets to intimidate demonstrators are the same bureaucrats who are cutting people's access to FEMA, medicare, social security, and SNAP benefits. It's not immigrants. It's not trans people. It's them who are making our lives worse.

And Bundy supporters showed up armed to the teeth and were openly sighting in on federal employees. None of this seemed overly troubling to those on the right. Imagine if these images were of LA protestors aiming in on LAPD officers.

This is how you normalize authoritarianism.

A terrifying escalation:

I'm sorry, Facebook did what to Ms. Solnit?

They keep talking about punishing protestors as if this country wasn’t FOUNDED BY PROTESTERS WHO ENSHRINED THE RIGHT TO PROTEST, I AM SO TIRED OF HOW STUPID THINGS HAVE BECOME

Posting this 1967 Birmingham News editorial cartoon for all the people who don't realize that this is how MLK was viewed by a big chunk of white America.

Guys, if you like the cat photos, help the cats. Cat food is extremely expensive.

I’m trying to do something to get us out of this bad neighbor situation. I can’t disclose yet, but would appreciate prayers / good vibes / positive thoughts.

I’ve been loud a/b how much I hate Newsome & oppose him as any sort of party leader or president, so I dislike having to support or boost anything he does. I think he’s unreliable & & untrustworthy at his core. But he’s part of this, so we should encourage his turn toward aggressive direct action.

You fight for a zygote, but cheer when a child is ripped from a mother‘s arms by ICE. Tells me everything I need to know about you.

I'm going to see if my brain doesn't melt out of my ears for the next two hours, but in the mean time, have a kitty:

Trying to write a newsletter while my desk looks like this (the sawing has been constant for the past two days):

Check your map apps Some of them have an alert function I use Waze My friends & I are using the alert function to let our immigrant friends know where there is danger We use #ICE or #SNOW or #NoGo Could you pass this idea on to your tribe? Small steps like this will help us control the cruelty!

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called Los Angeles a “city of criminals” and not a city of immigrants. But like its name, Los Angeles is a city of angels. We protect and look out for one another, especially the most vulnerable.
