LLMs hallucinating nonexistent software packages with plausible names leads to a new malware vulnerability: "slopsquatting."

Particularly enlightening episode of a reliably insightful podcast by @gideonrachman.bsky.social open.spotify.com/episode/4SrX...

Interesting piece of history.

It would be a great move for the United States to create a trade zone with e.g. other North American countries, Europe, Japan and South Korea against China. But they have made it a lot harder for themselves through their bullying tactics, and those countries are now pursuing alternative options.

It is difficult to convey how monumentally idiotic Trump’s tariffs are. Allow me to try. Let’s begin with Adam Smith. In the 200 years prior to Smith’s 1776 “Wealth of Nations” Mercantilism was the dominant view of trade.

In that spirit - Mark and Robin are rightly watching whether China will devalue. @msobel.bsky.social @robin-j-brooks.bsky.social

Propaganda may sound emotional — but machines learn it mathematically. This thread breaks down how propaganda detection systems actually work. Let’s demystify the tech 👇

You get what you measure – if the success of a news article is measured by clicks, you get clickbait headlines. Often these articles are just briefly glimpsed to find out who, what, where. Guardian's "Deeply read" -listing is a great concept, as those are the articles that are actually read.

Interesting piece of Finnish history from around the time when we gained independence.

This is so surreally corrupt it’s hard to even grasp. US media is incapable of processing it - directly using the White House to promote a meme coin with hidden ownership structure.

Illusory Truth Effect — Repetition makes lies feel true You’ve heard it before, so it feels right. That’s the Illusory Truth Effect. Disinfo thrives on repetition — not accuracy. Let’s break down how this cognitive glitch tricks your brain. 🧵

Just got a lovely, long email from a former Commodore retailer about my Tramiel piece. About how it helped him finally understand why Tramiel was the way he was in their interactions, over 50yrs ago "I finished reading the last paragraph of your article and just sat quiet for a moment or two."

"Warren Buffett's Chilling Climate Change Warning," the Motley Fool trumpets, before musing on whether it's time to sell shares in Buffett's firm, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-B). Pay attention! 🧵

Alas, in the long run we are all dead.

OK, a roundup response to the "they won't follow the court orders" people. First of all, you're wrong! The administration *is* following many of the court orders. What's more, they're showing their understanding of the validity of court orders by seeking stays pending appeal when they lose.
