Oh wow he's "winning big"?? No other phrase comes to mind? Possibly the largest and most open corruption in US history? Kinda has a ring to it, along with being the objective truth. Weird that a newspaper writer wouldn't put such a straight forward story in historic context. Why is that Eric?

Totally agreed that Republicans are 100% to blame for their own actions. I just think the system did provide the effective tools to deal specifically with Trump and his criminal associates and that the people Democrats put in charge of those tools failed to act. I blame those actors not the system

Your first question is the right one, IMO. The specific people who had the authority to use the system chose not to. Why? Wealth very famously slowed it's concentration during the Biden admin that you seem to now think should have been thrown out. That's my issue with your logic here

Right, but the system had the ability to address this specific problem, both in the statutory law and the plain language of the constitution. So how is it this a systemic issue that would be resolved by another system regardless of any individual's decisions working in that new system?

I completely agree with you that our system was perfectly capable of solving this problem and individuals chose not to. I don’t know what I said to make you think otherwise.

So a fan of the condition after all? Abolish the filibuster and enfranchise our territories is an openly available constitutional solution to the problems you’re describing. Throw out the system is not. It also happens to be Trumps exact message
comment in response to post
But what system doesn’t depend on individuals to use their power when appropriate to maintain the integrity of the system? That’s always going to be the case. Even if you tore down the constitution, the next system won’t solve this problem
comment in response to post
So you have a replacement system that removes the decision making of individuals? I’m interested to hear that one!

The fault is more accurately placed on those who had the power to stop this and chose not to (Garland most of all but also many Dem Senators). That doesn’t strike me as an institutional failure as much as an individual failure. We’ll use the system correctly to save it seems more compelling imo

Is it our constitutional system and government institutions that made Trump? Or is it private institutions like the media that are to blame for an entertainer gaining power and destroying the system from within? You can argue the government must prevent this, but that’s a little reductive right?

Good point. You’ve been successfully obstinate for the past 4+ years and it has worked wonders. Luckily, you of course have no agency, only people like Will who point out that median income was never higher than Joe Biden’s last year in office. Only they have influence that led us here

Genuinely, how does this ethos differ from MAGA? I think American institutions are mostly very good actually, as shown by the objective improvement of lives across all class levels over the past 40+ years. MAGA wants us to believe we’ve secretly been living in hell. Why do you agree?

It’s in no way any evidence of learning by the American Public. How is this not due to reporting again? What do you think the point of your job is? wtf are you even talking about?

Didn’t he explicitly say today that he will fire Powell?? From the Oval Office??

It's untrue and absurd to believe that Anderseen and/or DOGE are in any realistic way aligned with Ezra's Abundance agenda. CEO Monarchs and Abundance have nothing to do with each other, and you could not credibly find a single action from DOGE that is supported by Abundance

To clarify: If someone tried to say *in real life* what he appears to be saying, on a pure reaction I would not be able to hold back. This is the whole problem right here. We’re lol nothing mattering ourselves into a bottomless pit and all patience for that is gone

I genuinely can’t tell exactly what his “joke” is here, but if someone tried to say what he appears to be saying, I would reflexively punch them in the face. There is no more room for this nihilistic stupidity

It’s not too late to enforce the laws of Wisconsin regarding Elon Musk’s efforts to purchase this election.
comment in response to post
If Musk doesn't end his evening in a squad car, Wisconsin is just announcing that sufficiently wealthy & connected people get to publicly announce they're committing crimes, and the state will be too afraid to do anything about it. Criminal law is for the poor.

You're allowed to mention that these are incoherent ramblings of a sycophant attempting to sane wash even more baffling obsession from a demented idiot who's only actual thought process in this is "Greenland big on map". How pathetic and small do you feel having to pretend otherwise day in and out?
comment in response to post
No, he should be investigated and tried for the crimes that he clearly committed. He should resign too, but that’s a “norm” not an outcome of the legal system. No more rule by norms and social pressure bs, it’s time for actual rules, accountability and enforcement

So we now live in an inverted reality where "free speech" absolutists focus entirely on private actors while the government openly engages in punishment based on speech content, to NO pushback. It's insane, and it's because journalists allowed bad actors to redefine the term in a complete 180
comment in response to post
I think it's incredibly important to emphasize this, because the concept of a "principle of free speech" that somehow exists outside of government is complete nonsense that provides the opportunity to be a hypocrite on the topic. Not only that, it creates cover for ACTUAL free speech violations
comment in response to post
You should also point out that unless you are a government actor, there is literally no way to be a "free speech hero." Any action you take on your private platform, at your private university, in your decision of what to and what not to read/view/listen to is EXACTLY equal on free speech heroism

It’s an open question if he’s even been fired and you don’t say that!! Even in your post hoc bs explanation you seemingly MUST defer to Trump. Don’t you see this?? Do you have any respect for yourself or your role in this democracy?? Wtf man!

This your “I’ve got my Will Stancil hammer so everything looks like a nail” take. Building houses will not get people killed. When have these authors ever said their buzzwords will win elections or stop fascists? This is about what to do when and where you win

Grow the fuck up, Mickey Mouse. If due process only applies whenever the executive feels like it there are no rules to count on. “Oh don’t worry, I’m sure the rules that I need to protect me will still apply.” JFC it’s time to wake up!
