I've never read the Golden Age stories so I think I assumed the Red Skull's identity and origin went unrevealed until the 60s.

I just saw that on Wikipedia — I didn't read fast enough! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Sku...

Interesting hair styling choices, Johann.

I haven't! Looks like those issues of the original series aren't on Marvel Unlimited and I don't see any of the books collecting those comics available at the library or through ILL.

That time Linda Turner was shot point-blank in the face. (Don't worry, luckily her metal hair ornament completely deflected the bullet so she didn't even get a scratch.)

Some more pages from the Black Cat story with early Kubert art in Speed Comics #34. I forgot that Black Cat's boots were colored red in her earliest appearances.

Here's that page in color thanks to the fine folks at Comic Book Plus: comicbookplus.com?dlid=21051

I also love this gag about characters who cover half their face being bad shots.

It does look like he could be covering a burp!

Yeah, it's ah...just resting, yeah that's it, just resting!

I love all the little details, like the Silver Surfer's bathing cap and the tiny fish leaping out from Namor's ear.

Just noticed the Lizard off to the side in that group shot. Severin always did seem to enjoy drawing Lizzy, including him in lots of her big group pieces. Now I'm imagining an animated series starring this adorable version of the reptilian rogue.

And here's the character key with the corresponding character names provided in the alt text.

Here's a better attempt at getting that wraparound cover to lay flat so the image isn't distorted.

Trying to identify all the characters with Wonder Woman. Starting from the lower left and moving clockwise I believe it's Little Lulu, Go Girl, Little Orphan Annie, Little Dot, Little Audrey, and not sure who that's supposed to be on WW's lap. Maybe it's just meant to be a generic little girl?

Ha ha ha, embrace the cringe! My son finally gave up and accepted my cringe. He found it gave him something to talk about with other prospective students on the tour.

It's also interesting to look at Morrison's thumbnail layouts for Doom Patrol #19 and compare them to how Richard Case's finished art turned out.

Too bad they couldn't include it in the upcoming Lost Marvels collection.

Nice double-page spread by Howard Chaykin from The Scorpion #1.

There's more discussion about the misprint in this forum thread: www.tapatalk.com/groups/marve...

Diamond sent out a product update about the misprint but noted that "the book will not be reprinted" which is unfortunate.

I looked at a flip-through video of the Artist's Edition of the same material and it has the correct pages, so the error was introduced in the Artisan Edition. youtu.be/Qm46TL58j2w?...

Wait a minute... This is just a man-girdle, isn't it??

The Half Price Books in my area have this for their pricier comics. It does make flipping through them annoying.

Goddammit, Rob Liefeld! He also got entangled with the legal shenanigans involved with Fighting American.

If you don't get the reference to two sets of Thunder Agents, Tom Brevoort discusses it in this post (and in related sidebars he reveals that due to widespread confusion regarding the team's legal status, there were even more versions than the two I'd heard about!)

This site provides a nice overview of the Larsen issues which followed up on the events Moore had set in motion but it sounds like sales weren't great, possibly because Larsen tried to split the difference of the two different Supremes, satisfying no one, so the series ended with #68.
