I appreciate it's a British conference but, as a Brit, I'd have prefered Zelenskyy in the centre with Starmer to his left.
Not a slight on Starmer, I just feel the picture would have made for an even clearer message (an be more symmetrically pleasing).

I’m genuinely confused why administration and insolvency isn’t an option. For us obviously, not the creditors or senior management.
It’s literally the capitalist thing to do.

Quite. I’d actually advocate for changing the system to all for far more regular testing … bsky.app/profile/jjrs...

It’s sad that you’re both being forced to fight over the last scraps of space left behind by drivers. And it looks like the path isn’t even maintained next to the hedge.
My condolences ☹️

And with zebra markings.
comment in response to

It’s too complicated for drivers, we understand red lights (even if we think orange means accelerate) and the zebra markings. That’s it.
That came across as sarcasm but I do think it’s true.

Starmer should get the Russia Report released in full. Show the apathetic UK public exactly what's been going on.
Broadcast on primetime TV John Sweeney's excellent documentary on Johnson at Lebedev's party villa in Italy.
Leave no doubt in people's minds what the tories have enabled.

I think mobile phone based satnav should be compulsory for all motor vehicles with routing mandated by FAA or equivalent organisation to improve traffic flow and maximise utilisation of existing resources.
Also, regular multiple choice questions before being given clearance to maintain standards.

I’m actually genuinely interested in reg plates on bicycles but no one else ever is.
I asked all over the old site for any information on planing proposals, feasibility studies, anything at all.
I think maybe one guy in the whole time pointed me at some interesting documentation. One.

Doubly so for men. For men: if you feel uncomfortable in a situation that is sufficient reason to leave / say no / change your mind. also, you're allowed to change your mind at ANY TIME, and that’s ok.
Also for men: anyone else can their mind wrt to you, and that’s ok too.

What would you suggest the OP uses? Maybe “motor vehicle highway”?
I agree that language matters though can’t immediately think of a word which distinguishes specifically scenic routes for motor vehicles.

The effect of “hit by car” is to diminish its importance, to that of an accident, which itself is interpreted as an “oopsie”.
People are thus reasonably trying to change to different wording in order to evoke a more accurate response of horror and demand for justice and systemic fixes.
comment in response to
post
While I agree that it’s the equivalent of saying “person shot” or “person stabbed” the wider context of the statement could not be more different.
Both these statements evoke a human actor who needs to be apprehended and justice served.

To be clear, with ubiquitous high resolution 360 degree dash cams we can make sure that the emergency vehicle driver took reasonable steps to avoid property damage.
The owner of the affected property (and their insurer) would of course have free access to the footage but would not be compensated.
comment in response to

Fire engines, ambulances, gritters and any other emergency appliances should have bull bars to push vehicles out of the way and the legal right to do so.
People should always come before property, lazily abandoned property doubly so.

I added most of them to my list a long time ago so I'll be a bit out of date. The backing data for my site can be found here: github.com/roaddeathsuk...

Thanks. It's all the more depressing that many Police forces remove pages after a while. For example, this url described a Man in his 90s die in a head on collision. We'll never know who he was, the outcome of the investation. They just too common to care.

I’d be ok with the wording if we had more comprehensive reporting of the outcomes.
Unfortunately, I had to make this website myself otherwise the names are just lost (unless it’s a cyclist)

If I die in a collision, I hope the relevant agency spends more on redesigning the road or the junction, than deciding who is to blame. I think every fatal collision should come with at least speed reduction on the road while they rethink how the design should be changed.

Appreciate it would take a lot of work, but could you set up a freephone number where they find a lawyer for you? One which fair to lawyers and maybe payed for by the local Bar?

“Don't be a dick, do take account of other road users and do be responsible for your own safety.” All fine, nothing to disagree with. But surely recording and reporting dangerous behaviour is also a requirement to prevent death. Why do you actively oppose that?

I’ve ridden motorcycles, horses and bicycles, and driven cars, large vans, and very large tractors. Nothing in my 35 years of experience has lead me the to the conclusion that “cyclists equally to car drivers”.
Maybe another 15 years will magically lead me to see an equality metric.

“Learning to get along with others” is not the same as tolerating others dangerous and often lethal behaviour. Sure, an individual should look after themselves, but you’re against recording and reporting? Why?
comment in response to
post
It’s sad that we’ve learned to tolerate drivers’ lethally bad behaviour, but it’s important to take a step back from actively deflecting, apologising, or in your case, minimising it. To be clear, you are minimising drivers’ behaviour while maximising cyclists and pedestrians behaviour.

I’d say no, for the same reason you stated: a business by its very nature can’t manage common externalities. I don’t think that makes one a pessimist, just accepting and respectful of the nature of enterprise.
comment in response to

You must understand my confusion here: 50 years experience riding, seeing a what drivers do every day to endanger others, including you, but posting all the wilfully ignorant driver talking points as if you’ve never ridden anything other than an SUV to the corner shop. The two simply don’t match.

In this case the market fails in of itself. There’s always going to be a sweet spot of regulation and this shows that it certainly isn’t zero.

It’s truly depressing that the Police already have appeal signs printed that just need the date writing in. Can you imagine having that for any other crime they deal with or any other form of transport.

Why say that junk? You’re a biker so must know what filtering is, and you must know how dangerous car drivers are to other people rather than just themselves.
Seriously, these are the first things I was taught when I took my motorcycle license. Who taught you?

Looking back through Durham Police's website inevitably produces a procession of death. Below is literally the first example I came across.

To summarise the entire article:
Alice Reeve said “I don’t know if there is any way of slowing down the traffic. But the kerbs are too high.”
Carol Tallis said that despite the construction of the new cycle lane she sees many cyclists using the road.

I’m pretty keen to keep the Lords advice only though on occasion I’d like to push far harder. If the government really want something they’re free to go to the people via a general election.
comment in response to

I agree. I also think that, for all its issues, the Lords appontement/non-elected nature is essential to its continued subserviance to the Commons.

I tried to keep track of them all but could only stomach it for a while. I think it’s important work but needs to be a group project so people don’t get burned out 😢

If you’re just counting gas giants then I’d argue the answer is 3 due to Jupiter being in a binary system with the Sun rather than orbiting it per se.
My POV is that “planet” is to astronomy as “vegetable” is to biologically. Make of that what you will.
