This post explains why Chuck Schumer is right about the risk that a shutdown would also shut down access to the courts. www.emptywheel.net/2025/03/14/d...

You know people are furious when they show up at an 8am protest at @schumer.senate.gov house. Chuck you are betraying us. It’s not too late to change your mind and actually fight back! @indivisible.org @socialists.nyc @riseandresist.bsky.social @marisakabas.bsky.social @50501newyork.bsky.social

On the off chance we're moving out of Kabuki mode, this was my thought on what the Ds core demand should be. Perhaps you negotiate down to this. But this is the key I think. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/this-...

Morning update: NO on cloture. NO on the CR. We’re fighting this bad bill that cuts Americans a terrible deal with everything we’ve got.

Imagine this: On the evening of March 8, you and your spouse unlock the door to your apartment building. As you step inside, two men—not in uniform—push their way in behind you. They tell you your visa has been revoked and that they are there to deport you.

If we can "avoid a government shutdown" by voting for this CR, then why is the entire Department of Education closed today? Why is USAID closed? Why are hundreds of billions in grant contracts frozen? We are already in the shutdown. And your votes DON'T stop it. In fact, they allow it to expand.

Genuinely curious if congressional Republicans have thought through their complete capitulation to trump’s power grab, like if you decide he can do literally anything and congress has no power, then… how long are you guys gonna have those cool jobs that make you feel big and strong

Trump is surrendering America. Trump is the opposite of strong. He is a tiny, weak, small, scared, trembling, sissy, husk of a man. There is nothing manly about his fat, sweaty, smelly, gross, makeup'ed self An absolute joke

We are back for day two in front of Judge Reyes in Talbott v. Trump, the challenge to Trump's anti-trans military executive order. The plaintiffs are seeking a preliminary injunction; we do not expect a ruling until after a hearing after the military issues its implementing guidance next week.

Starting think this is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Why does a 38-year old U.S. Attorney in SDNY, who is also a die hard conservative, have more guts and integrity than the entirety of the GOP Senate Conference combined?! Shame on the shameless sycophants and enablers there, who can’t find the spine to stand up to common MAGA bullies.

DOJ leadership has put all Public Integrity Section lawyers into a room with 1 hour to decide who will dismiss Adams indictment or else all will be fired. Sending them strength to stand by their oath, which is to support the Constitution, not the president’s political agenda. 🇺🇸

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges. This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.

Eric Adams was a disgrace from day one and now he's sold all of us to the Trump administration—including our most vulnerable neighbors. It's time for @govkathyhochul.bsky.social to fire him. Every minute she waits, she's sacrificing more New Yorkers. ENOUGH.

Breaking: For the second day in a row, the AP reporter on pool duty who tried to attend a POTUS event was blocked from entering the Oval Office. The reporter was there to cover the swearing-in ceremony for Tulsi Gabbard.

Brianna Keilar: Do you think that calling Elon Musk a dick is effective messaging? Congressman Robert Garcia: Well, he is a dick.

If you’re wondering if you’re in a constitutional crisis and that the republic could collapse at any moment, you are.

Amidst the chaos and the law-breaking the most important thing to remember/focus on is that they are doing these things illegally because they know they don't have the votes to do it by passing laws, even in a GOP controlled Congress.

When you read this….READ it. Stop…and let the bone-jarring, undeniable truth of this travel rapidly up your legs…experiencing the rattling of your teeth, just before it collides with your brain. 1/2

In reaction to all the stuff that's happened over the last week I've seen some otherwise normal people say, well, they're just pushing their interpretation of 'unitary executive theory'. it's important for everyone involving themselves in this moment to know that that's not a real thing. now ...

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

Don't just ask how Musk/Trump actions serve their supposed purposes. Ask how they aid the attempt to seize power paulkrugman.substack.com/p/autogolpe

Thank you! A federal judge blocked U.S. DOGE employees from altering any records of payments at the Treasury Department while she weighs a request by public interest groups for a broader injunction against their activity. Thank you, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly’s! 🙏

SCOOP: Cats that became infected with bird flu might have spread the virus to humans in the same household and vice versa, according to data that briefly appeared online in a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention but then abruptly vanished. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/h...

Musk's latest power grab: your Medicare benefits. Elon - you're looking in the wrong place. Private insurers in Medicare Advantage overcharged taxpayers by at least $83 billion in 2024 alone.

Scenes like this wouldn’t be possible without whistleblowers coming forward about Elon Musk’s authoritarian takeover. Reminder that if you’re a public servant wishing to report fraud, waste, or abuse at a federal agency, you can do so on my website:

Why Did Musk Gizmocrats Rewrite the Payment System Code? talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/why-d...

And here it is: NYT reports that internal emails show that DOGE officials gaining access to Treasury data wanted to use it to pause USAID payments. This underscores the arguments I made in the piece/thread below about why Treasury's defense of Musk's access is such a sham.

Elon Musk may get to be a dictator at Tesla, but he doesn’t get to be a dictator in Washington. We need to shut down the Musk operation NOW.

MORE 👏 OF 👏 THIS 👏 Democratic lawmakers protesting moves to shut down USAID. "Maybe before coming after USAID, Republican should look at the billions and billions of dollars of tax breaks and subsidies they give to oligarchs like Elon Musk. You want to save some money? Let's start there."

BREAKING: Judge Deborah Boardman of the U.S. District Court of Maryland granted a nationwide preliminary injunction blocking the implementation of the Trump administration's executive order on birthright citizenship. The order, she ruled, conflicts with the plain language of the 14th Amendment.

I stand by this message.

Think firing the entire federal workforce will save America money? Federal civilian employees account for just 4% of the federal budget. Even if someone like Musk—or any president—fired all of us, it wouldn’t make much of a dent in government spending. Don’t fall for it.

Well she’s retained the best. Let’s go!
