I think she should do it, but it’s politically complicated, especially once she picks someone else. She’d need to know that we’d support her (and defend her from a whirlwind of criticism, especially from the Trump-right) if she did. There are times to bully pols and times to protect them.

If the Mayor's office is vacant, the NYC Public Advocate (currently Jumaane Williams) assumes the role of acting mayor until a special election is held to finish the rest of the term. Hochul can't appoint someone to fill that spot.
