“You’re so strong! I could never handle your illness” People say this all the time to people with chronic illness. I assume it’s meant as a compliment - but shows a stunning lack of awareness We don’t get a choice. We’re strong because we HAVE to be. You can’t trade your body in when it gets sick.

Being disabled and chronically ill is beyond lonely. Far too many people in society can’t comprehend illnesses which are permanent & unrelenting but don’t necessarily kill you. As a result they EXPECT you to get better. When you don’t - they abandon you. 🧵/1
