Getting Started

Last week I held a meeting with homeowners on the Byker estate to discuss their concerns about high District Heating energy bills. Thanks to the BBC’s Luke Walton for responding to the residents’ request to cover the story, and producing such a comprehensive and informative piece. 🧵👇

I’m at the Association of Green Councillors conference online. What we lack in money, @thegreenparty.bsky.social councillors make up for in hard work, dedication and creativity. It’s why when Greens get elected, people like what they see. Imagine if we had money too. Donation links below.

"Are we really comfortable with a situation where a party – even an extreme party – can win a...majority with just three out of 10 votes? Because if things continue, that’s where we’re heading.” @alexsobel.co.uk is bang on. Ludicrous to suggest first past the post will protect us from extremism.

Carla Denyer, "Labour have been handed a tough opening hand. But I also feel that in several areas they've tied their own hands behind their back" @carladenyer.bsky.social "Rejecting a wealth tax.. Two child benefit cap... Winter fuel allowance.. Rejecting renationalisation of water companies"

I’ve spoken at Climate Action rallies over the years as a campaigner. I was proud to do so today as one of Newcastle’s first two @thegreenparty.bsky.social councillors. As I said, two things are true: this is an exciting time for climate action and this is also a bleak time for climate action.
