Great to visit Percy Scenic Reserve in Lower Hutt for the first time today with @joannakidman.bsky.social A beautiful spot.

After today's debacle in the White House how are we feeling about our so-called 'traditional allies' in the Five Eyes partnership? Time for a rethink?

My cartoon in today's www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3605... Finally! Columbo is here to throw some cold water of reality on a truly dangerous & stupid idea. What could go wrong? Too many things to even entertain... #NzPol #CitizensArrest #Cartoon #Caricature #PoliticalCartoon

THIS! ⬇️ Western allies (including NZ) think it's OK to take part in massive US-led war gaming exercises targeted at China Yet in the past few days NZ has been shocked–shocked!–that China has dared to sail 3 warships through international waters in the Tasman www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL25...

"Pacific countries and territories trying to assert their sense of autonomy need to be treated with respect and mana, and not be growled at in a paternalistic way, as if they’re delinquent juveniles": Steven Ratuva Well said!! e-tangata.co.nz/comment-and-...

"...my best advice is that China has acted in accordance with international law...": Australian Minister for Defence It's not great but can we all just calm down? All that sabre-rattling #NuclearFreePacific 1> www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Is anyone here likely to be active in the tertiary education side of the Waitangi Tribunal Kaupapa Inquiry: Education Services and Outcomes? If yes, I'd be really interested to hear from you (DM me 🙂)

Can a journalist please ask him this week how far is ok #nzpol

Journalists - you do not have to pad out your articles with Brian Tamaki's violent, defamatory quotes. You can simply report that he used social media to spread false allegations and bigotry, and cover what that has led to.

Deportee Act MP shoots himself in foot a second time?

Absolutely 100% this: "The Minister just has to pick up the phone, talk to MPI. He hasn't done his homework. He's just relied on laziness, I'd say - 'oh, you need a whole new kitchen', that's absolute rubbish" www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

If you only read one thing this year, read Aaron Smale's succinct one-page piece in this week's NZ Listener about state violence. It's paywalled (but you could always read it for free while waiting in the supermarket aisle). www.nzherald.co.nz/the-listener...

Congratulations @vomalley.bsky.social and all the writers who appear on the Ockhams long list. Completely wowed by the incredible quality of NZ writing published in 2024 across all categories. 2024 was such a great year for NZ writing.

Tamatha Paul: "What's the difference between ethnicity and class?" University of Auckland senior academic, submitting in a personal capacity in favour of the Bill, is unable to explain despite commenting extensively on ethnicity.TBF he was cut off by a point of order, but still #TreatyPrinciplesBill

As we witness a new era of McCarthyism being ushered into NZ universities, with wāhine academics being a favoured target, it will be interesting to see how far university leaders will go to defend our right to speak.

Was it Rima Nakhle who just made that incredibly ungracious and rather spiteful comment to Dr Ganesh Nana?

Vincent is up next @vomalley.bsky.social - I can see him on the livestream and I'm like.. 'that's my dude!'🕺🕺🕺😘😘😘 www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Oh gosh, members of the Listener 7 are making some interestingly predictable oral submissions to the Treaty Principles Bill Select Committee today. All respect to all those who choose not to listen to the pro-Bill submissions, but I find them fascinating.

Minister for #Māori Development Tama Potaka announces eight new appointments to the Waitangi Tribunal, and denies it is a “white-wash” My Stuff #cartoon today #NZpol

Pretty well all the scientists I know care deeply about the planet and environment and are passionate about their curiosity-driven work as contributing directly to the human or public good. They really don't give a shit about commercialising their findings or building weapons of mass destruction.

From Aotearoa, we witness Palestinian people reuniting in this time of ceasefire, finally. And with relief comes resolve. It is more important than ever to divest all our money from genocide and apartheid, all of it, now. Tell UniSaver to divest 👇 youtube.com/shorts/-mR3o...

This incisive analysis of state violence in Aotearoa and the performative ignorance of our state officials, written by the hugely respected criminologist @proflizzystanley.bsky.social & her colleagues, is one of my very best reads of 2024. It's a blinder. journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

How the actual f. could I have lived this long in Whanganui-a-Tara without having visited Mātiu Island? Situation rectified now, but I mean... shame on me.

Oh Cabinet so white.
