Israel called off the release of more than 600 Palestinians from jail on Saturday in protest over the displays in Gaza.

The nightmares never end. Social worker Dr. Daniela Shebar-Shapira talks about the close connection between the Gaza war and domestic violence: "The boys come home, and their mothers are genuinely afraid of them" www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

That’s it.

I love you all. I started subscribing [email protected] to email subscriptions and most already have them (and I can’t). I am dead. Good job #resistance.

Another @bluejo.bsky.social prompt #CurrentlyReading FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN by Terry Bisson. A far too rare - and simply marvelous - alt-history that doesn't leave you wanting to gouge your eyes out. (Mild spoilers in Walton's piece at link.) #BookSky #pukapuka reactormag.com/america-the-...

Weird how good policy that helps people is also good politics. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

Next week I get to talk about coins and counterfeiting in my medieval history course. I’ve got a bunch of medieval coins (pennies and half pennies) for my students to examine. It’s gonna be loads of fun!

'“They should have released him in a ceremony, like [they did] the Jews, without distinction. It makes us feel as though he’s special and better than the rest. For us, every hostage is important, whether Jewish or Arab,” said one relative cited by the news site.'

petition to rename it the Mangione spiral 😵‍💫

"Deal" is an inadequate word.

Over ten years incommunicado.

These are dark times, but there are opportunities to make a better world out of them. A closer Europe, which brings Ukraine into the EU and into a new defence alliance. Russia, worn down by a grinding war and less of a threat. Independence from US influence. We could make a better world out of this.

Reading this made me unspeakably angry, especially the part where patients can request emergency supplies of medicine — but they don't get told this, lest it overburden the system. What a a horrible, false machinery to ration medical care!

Dark skies reflect my sadness at the firings of all the humans that help keep the #GreatLakes as healthy as possible. Tonight I mourn the loss of the 14 @usfws.bsky.social employees that kept the invasive sea lamprey at bay. My fishery will be hurt. 😢😢🌊🌊

JWST observations of our very own black hole (the one at the centre of the Milly Way) show that its brightness changes basically all the time. A very nice ABC News article (including some quotes by me 😎) 🔭🧪 www.abc.net.au/news/science...
