Double digit temperatures. Puddles in the Prairies. Wild freeze-thaw swings. ... in February. Whenever weather feel unseasonable, many Canadians find themselves asking "Is this the new normal"? @jsrutgers.bsky.social digs into what's in store for Canadian winters: thenarwhal.ca/climate-chan...

EXCLUSIVE: New York’s congestion pricing plan raised $48.6M in tolls during its first month, a strong start that exceeded expectations. The revenue figures, expected to be released publicly on Monday by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, are the latest sign that the tolling plan is working.

Canadian politicians are looking for a win in response to to Trump's threats on trade and have jumped on the bandwagon of allegedly large internal barriers to trade. Here's why they should lower their expectations www.policyalternatives.ca/news-researc...

I think this is my favourite report cover of all time. Any others?

He's a surrender monkey. Pierre Poilievre's plan is to roll over to Trump's incoherent request. Under a CPC gov't, we can expect to just keep rolling over to worse and worse demands from Trump.

Really can't say enough about how great pedestrianization has been. The best part is that is that the pedestrian-only streets are scattered throughout the city. This is the one near my hood:

If you listen to appeasers' arguments, we should try to do what Trump wants us to do, especially to preserve the oil and gas industry. An industry that has no long-term future, one that has prevented Canada from strengthening and diversifying its economy. 1/n

Here's my latest for Truthout -- Americans have way more access to fluoiridated water than Canadians do. They also spend more public money on dental care. While the new public benefit will change that, we need to vastly increase access to fluoridated drinking water. My latest.

i cant imagine what itd take to be a "top performer" at the depraved & miserable meta corporation. Is it whoever clogs the toilet the most?

Pierre Poilievre’s chief strategist (and ex gf lol), Jenni Byrne, saw former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole being nice to a Liberal. Byrnes response? “For anyone unsure why Erin is no longer Leader of the Conservative Party… She supported DEI policies (…)” Fucking trash dude

Talking climate change and wildfires on CBC this evening. The faster we cut emissions and build resilience, the less suffering there will be.

What Trudeau's tenure taught me is that market based solutions lack durability. The phase out of coal will be hard to undo. The carbon tax can be undone quickly and will ripple through the economy. Climate policies need to be regulations, standards, and mandates.

I’d argue this is because Poilievre is cosplaying as caring about the working class with all his talk about affordability and housing. The problem is that if you actually listen to him, the solution he offers is trickle down economics. But the Liberals are like “nah the economy is fine”

For every 1% of tax applied on property values over $5M, the province would raise $4.5M for the top ten most expensive houses alone. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Anyway, I watched Pierre Poilievre’s interview with Jordan Peterson so you don’t have to, and picked out some of the wildest parts so you know what the guy poised to be the next Prime Minister of Canada is actually saying.

“Everything is broken so lets make it worse” vs “Everything is perfect so let’s fix nothing”

Great piece!

Capitalism makes it illegal, literally, to put human and environmental well-being above profit. We cannot trust essential services to such a system, which is why we need public ownership. A lot of privatization must be reversed.

I think the carbon tax is a perfect example of how political compromise in the era of bad-faith politics doesn't work, so you might as well do the more-progressive, bold thing. The Liberals put in place a price on carbon, which is really a Conservative, market-based response to climate change.

Hm, this group seems to want basic human rights and to be left alone. But them asking for that upsets this other group, which really likes dehumanizing, attacking and stripping rights from that first group for imagined reasons Newsroom managers: ok, we gotta make sure we get both sides here

I recall another big bust a few yrs ago. On the 300 block, all debts called. Nobody was fronted. Dopesickness rippled out. Down got more contaminated, more lethal. Dealers fought over who'd fill the gap. Bullets flew. But drugs were still available without pause. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
