My parents tried war tax resistance and held 64% of their tax dues in escrow. They were found guilty of frivolous deduction, fined, and my dad’s wages were garnished, resulting in serious hardship for the family.

He was in the Nursing program there, while also working as an auto mechanic. It’s a wonder he had the time, and that he didn’t fall asleep in that chair. It’s one of my favorite memories of him.

The 2001 experience was formative. I think I was like 8 or 9 years old. My dad took me, and we sat on the floor in beanbag chairs eating bottomless baskets of popcorn in a dorm theater at the nearby university.
