After years of Insta stories, Linkedin posts, and fleeting Clubhouse talks, I’ve taken my commentary cravings off the algorithmic hamster wheel. “Odds & Sods”: politics meets tech, business meets society, and outrage meets nuance. No fluff, no single topic—just the bigger picture behind the chaos.

TIL that Andreesen Horowitz, the main VC backer of Substack, hired Daniel Penny whose only notable achievement is that he killed a Blck man on a subway and then was acquitted for it. He’s now an investor. Sounds about white. Substack is going to fuck you over. It’s just a matter of when and how.

I fear some of you are still not quite understanding that the purpose of DOGE is not actually to make the federal government more efficient, it's to privatize what they can make money off of and then dismantle the rest.

Mozilla has just deleted the following: “Does Firefox sell your personal data?” “Nope. Never have, never will. And we protect you from many of the advertisers who do. Firefox products are designed to protect your privacy. That’s a promise. " x.com/LundukeJourn...

Exzellenter Thread.

NEW: A WIRED investigation reveals that Elon Musk’s Starlink is serving internet to scam compounds in Myanmar where tens of thousands of human beings are enslaved. By @mattburgess1.bsky.social: www.wired.com/story/starli...

It's the Musk Effect. Someone who sounds like a genius until he starts talking about something you're knowledgeable about, and you realize he's saying the dumbest shit ever.

YCombinator apologized for promoting a startup that optimizes sweatshops saying, “we thought slave-tech would be more popular” 😔😩

one of the odd things about the economics of sports fandom in England the the US is how different the levels of profit maximizing by clubs and leagues are in TV and live events US sports are pretty cheap to watch on TV and crazy expensive in person and UK sports are the exact opposite

The tragedy is that this erosion of press freedom comes not with a bang but with a whimper. It’s a death by a thousand cuts, each justified in the name of “freedom” or “neutrality.”

if you're still writing about the morning routines of billionaires actively destroying democracy, freedom and the planet itself you're either a useful idiot, a fucking idiot, or a grifter.

The owner of Politico is a tone-deaf media tycoon who’d rather stroke the ego of a demagogic politician rather than acknowledge the legitimate concerns of an entire continent.

Me being a broken record on this: Don't trust consumer-facing "AI" for anything.

Cool though. Let’s keep coming up with best practices for students to use chatgpt.

Et tu, The Guardian???

The move represents the first major example of the country’s cyberdefense agency accommodating President Donald Trump’s false claims of election fraud and online censorship.

Your oligarchy, ladies and gentlemen

Good morning to this man, and this man only #bbcqt

In today's edition of my newsletter "Odds & Sods", we will look into Steve Bannon’s media manipulation tactics and discuss maintaining our sanity amid the flood of information. Additionally, we will take an unexpected detour into the world of Mario Kart for some surprising lessons on economics.

Altman vs Musk is like Kendrick vs Drake but if they were both Drake

“The findings underscore the urgent need for policymakers, researchers, and the public to understand and address the intertwined dynamics of misinformation and radical right populism,” said Petter Törnberg of the University of Amsterdam.

I hate to say I told you so.

“Though both Hitler and Hugenberg were fiercely anti-Communist, anti-democratic, anti-immigrant, and anti-Semitic, their attempts at political partnership failed spectacularly and repeatedly.” Timothy Ryback unpacks Hitler's relationship with his oligarchs:

On point, @ayajaff.bsky.social.

My worldview is bleak—that’s how I concluded last week’s newsletter edition. This statement has sparked a few discussions over the past few days, so today, I promise to brighten the mood.

NEW: Officials across the US government privately warn that Musk's DOGE blitz appears to be violating numerous laws Legal objections voiced at Treasury, Education, USAID, GSA, OPM, EEOC, OMB & elsewhere Messages, audio, interviews all reveal internal concerns www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

New from me: Musk and his allies seem to be doing another thing common with tech startups in their government takeover--hiring very young technical talent. We identified several those young people who appear to have very high access. @wired.com www.wired.com/story/elon-m...
