People tell me to be safe while biking, and while I appreciate it, what I'd really appreciate is people going a step further and pondering *why* they think biking is unsafe. Because then they'd have to grapple with the fact that we've designed our society to make biking "dangerous" for many people.

Nobody ever thinks it will happen to them. Only other people. Not me. But then, the unimaginable happens. You find yourself on an airplane seated next to Ted Cruz.

One fascinating thing I learned while doing this work is all of the concerns about abuse of the US "golden visa" investor program. Another fascinating thing I learned is that the US government's redactions of some application materials don't always ensure the applicant's anonymity. Helpful!

One political view I have that's probably unpopular but that is definitely correct is that it should be way easier to lose your driver's license. You hit a pedestrian? Lose your license. Run a bunch of red lights? Lose your license. Ignore marked crosswalks? Lose your license.

What a morally bankrupt take. This writer is using his position of significant public influence to undermine a policy that demonstrably makes the city safer, and particularly for children and those with mobility impairments. Just the most pathetic, whiny arguments. cc: @thewaroncars.bsky.social

I'm begging you, don't forget about the cars! Yes, they may block crosswalks in the brief period when pedestrians can cross and generally endanger the public when inching into traffic, but come on! These pedestrians have had it too good for too long anyway. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Seems like these bollards wouldn't have been fit for purpose. So, what's the point? Reminds me of the useless plastic posts dividing some bike lanes from vehicle traffic. Constantly prioritizing cars.
