Understand Everton and West Ham are both considering a move for Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil.🔴⚪️

Trying to get anything substantial achieved in January is almost impossible in football. The transfer window brings chaos, however prepared you are if others are acting irrationally then you are forced to be reactive. Then nothing actually happens until the last 72 hours anyway.

The ability to quickly watch and ACCURATELY predict future output is hugely important in football. I haven't got time so please pretend that I wrote a long blog comparing the best football talent ID people to Chick Sexers and react accordingly. psmag.com/magazine/the...

Leeds among the clubs understood to be keeping tabs on Louie Barry with Aston Villa set to recall 21 y/o from Stockport and send him on loan at a higher level. Barry has 15 G/A from 19 apps in League One this season. www.teamtalk.com/leeds-united...

Man, Leeds are just SO so good this season. In any typical Championship season there are like 2-4 excellent teams and then [Everyone Else]. This year Leeds are miles apart in performance, and one of the best defensive teams I can remember in the league.

Ha ha, I was thinking that yesterday #lufc

I made this point in June, that football at the elite level was becoming more tactical homogenous. That said, when there’s an orthodoxy then heterodoxy can flourish as a practical alternative.

Hiring multiple high profile staff into overlapping roles. Do you really need a Technical Director, Sporting Director, Director of Recruitment, and CEO (previously a Football Operations guy)? What do they do all day?

On Colin Hendry’s birthday, a reminder of when he got the ball at Maine Road… and morphed into Franz fucking Beckenbauer.

EXCL: Leeds United have explored the conditions of a potential move for Real Salt Lake attacker Diego Luna, recently named MLS Young Player of the Season. Nothing to suggest any deal is imminent but interest is there. Also competition from Europe. #LUFC www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...

I’ve often pointed out changing a manager without changing players is unlikely to make much difference. Clive points out 14 of last 15 new managers in EPL won less than 5 of first ten games.

It has now officially been two weeks since the last small boat was recorded arriving in the UK. The 16th Nov was the last date and every day up to 30th Nov had 0 arrivals. This coincides with the arrest of the man responsible for supplying a large number of the boats was arrested on the 14th Nov.

The advertised role of a sporting director is to look after the long term of the club, building up systems and processes. In reality every time a sporting director changes so do most of the staff (recruitment, data etc). I know of clubs on the third rebuild in 5 years, building up from scratch.

1971 reminder that every generation of football fans thinks that flair players aren’t given as much freedom as they used to be (they may, of course, all be correct)

What a clearance from Struijk in the first half #lufc

Wintery conditions across the country have led to matches being cancelled. No such cop out for Glentoran and Linfield in 1995 who not only faced snow but also the orange ball bursting at half time. The show must go on… #Crap90sFootball

Efficient spending peaks at around 8th place in the Premier League, and the margin of return on each £ decreases thereafter. Being bad is expensive too. Transfers matter so much that you should probably pay whatever it takes to be better at them.

ICYMI: mrktinsights.com/index.php/20... Replicating the Brighton model is feasible. Here is how your club could do it too (but probably won't).
